Calloway county was formed in 1823. It is located in the Jackson Purchase region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 359 to 640 feet above sea level. Calloway county is located in southwestern Kentucky on the western shore of Kentucky Lake. It was formed in 1822 from Hickman county and named for Colonel Richard Callaway. The county seat is Murray.
