The Albert Sidney Johnston Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was organized 18 June 1897 in Louisville, Kentucky. Miss Henrietta Preston Johnston, daughter of the late General Albert Sidney Johnston, was unanimously elected president of the group. Miss Johnston declined this position on account of failing health but requested the honor of naming the chapter in memory of her father.
Among other founding members of the chapter was Henrietta Hunt (Morgan) Duke, sister of the late General John Hunt Morgan, and wife of his second-in command, General Basil W. Duke. The group officially became the 120th chartered chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy 2 July 1897.
