First marriage to Eliza Ann Coffman, buried at the Shelton family cemetery, Hardin county, KY on August 9 or 14, 1842 by Rev. Jacob Rogers. Eliza Ann Coffman was the daughter of Abraham Coffman and his wife, Margaret Ann Triplett. James Atcher's second marriage was to Mrs. Martha Jane Spencer Cooley, her previous husband was Thomas Cooley, the son of Calbert Cooley. Martha Jane and Thomas Cooley had one son, John Cooley and one daughter, Mary E. Cooley married to John Shelton. Atcher, born October 11, 1846; died January 27, 1931 in (Buried in Mill Creek Baptist Ch. Cem.); married Martha E. Cowley July 11, 1872. Notes for Edward C. Atcher: Edward Atcher, 84, was a veteran of the Civil War and died at his home suddenly of Apoplexy early on Tuesday evening, January 27, 1931 in present-day Radcliff. The house still exists but has been remodeled and updated over the years so it no longer resembles a log structure. According to a contemporary newspaper article, "A gathering, double the capacity of Mill Creek Baptist Church, was present there yesterday morning for double funeral services of Edward and James Atcher, brothers, who died less than twenty-four hours apart at their homes near Vine Grove." Edward Atcher leaves a daughter, Mrs. John Storms, of Vine Grove, and four sons, J. Hirk Atcher, Elizabethtown; Lon, Edward,Jr. and Isaac Atcher all of Vine Grove. Services were conducted by Rev. Atcher died of paralysis Wednesday night, March 2, 1916, at eleven o'clock at her home between Vine Grove and Mill Creek. Death followed a ten day's illness. She was a member of the Baptist Church and is survived by five sons and two daughters. Funeral services were conducted today at Mill Creek Baptist Church by the Reverend J. B. Hutcherson. Notes for Christopher Atcher: Christopher Atcher of Loudoun County Virginia, migrated from Loudon County Virginia to Mill Creek area of Hardin County, Kentucky. Family tradition does not relate how Christopher came to Kentucky except in a letter from Mrs. Postelwaite of West Virginia to Jennie Chapman Stovall of Waxahachie, Texas in 1977. "Atcher and Archer were in Marion County, West Virginia. People came over to Pennsylvania, down the Ohio River. Some stopped in Monongahlia County West Virginia on their way to Kentucky. " This theory does follow the confirmed general migration pattern of other settlers in the same area. Christopher and his wife, Rachel, took up residence on 270 acres of land near the Mill Creek Baptist Church (established 1783/84). Hardin County Will Book C #4321, lists Christopher Alecher (Atcher) as a buyer at the sale of the estate of Daniel Carroll recorded on July 9, 1821. County marriage records indicate Christopher was a minister, possibly Methodist, and performed marriages within the County. In those early yeaars, the old Mill Creek Baptist Church meeting house was used by both Methodist and Baptist. Christopher's estate filed papers of settlement on January 18, 1836 ( Hardin Co. Bk I, Inventories & estates). Included was documents signed by Christopher Atcher on July 20, 1833 indicating he was still alive on that date. Receipts for payment of Atcher's debts were dated beginning on August 26, 1833, indicating Christopher had died sometime between those dates. Notes for Cornelius Atcher: Cornelius Atcher appears to have moved from Virginia to Concord in Fayette County, Ohio sometime between 1815 (the birth of son, Peter in Virginia) and 1820 when he appears in the Census as Cornelius Etcher. The 1830 and 1840 Census lists him as Cornelius Atcher. The 1840 Census also lists a Sanford Atcher household consisting of one male between the ages of 20 and 30; 1 female between 20 and 30; and 2 females under 5 years of age.
