These are abstracts I made from the microfilmed Trigg County Deed Books. I'm not very good at reading old handwriting so there might be errors. I would urge you to consult the source records. You will find a few scattered notes to myself here too. Some may not reflect more recent information.

Trigg Co. Deedbook H, pp. 276-7, 21 March 1842. John Oliver and Mary Oliver, his wife, of Graves Co.,
Ky. sell to William Wilson of Christian Co., Ky. for $600, 103 acres of land in Trigg Co. on Horse
Creek, Gilmon's branch. Signed: John Oliver, Mary Oliver. Entered same day.

[There are two deeds involving a John Oliver, the first dated 1833 when he bought 103 acres on Horse
Creek, the second was dated 1843 when he and his wife Mary, residents of Graves Co., Ky, sold 103
acres on Horse Creek. I have speculated that he might have been a part of the Shadrack and Martin
Oliver family that had passed into the Jackson Purchase after many years in Caldwell. I searched my
letter files last night because I vaguely recalled that I had more on these families. I found ca 1988
correspondence with a Mrs. Ruth Hunt of Metropolis,IL who is descended from Shadrack Oliver who, with
Martin, was the son of John and Mary Oliver (died in Bertie Co., N. C. 1797 and 1806). Shad had two
other (much older) brothers, Malachi and John Jr., who apparently didn't come to KY. According to Mrs.
Hunt, Shad and Martin moved to Hickman/Fulton Co. in the 1820s and neither had a son John. So, John
was apparently not a part of this family of North Carolinians.

While looking for Mrs. Hunt's letters, I found letters from a Mrs. Walker Turner of Paducah, KY who
wrote that she is descended from John (1804-1849) and Mary (Wilson) Oliver of Halifax Co., Va. who
moved to Trigg Co. in the 1830s and then to Graves Co. in 1842, she says. She lists their children as
Sarah, William D., Cornelia, Susan, Virginia Ann, and Emily. Mrs. Turner believed her Olivers were not
related to the other Olivers in Trigg and Caldwell. She sent some notes she had collected that
included the comment that Trigg Co. Estate Settlement Book Q, p.385 contained the settlement of Robert
S. Oliver, dated 23 Dec. 1857, listing his children as Sarah B., Alice V., Mary R. and James M. (No
further information.) If all this can be taken at face value (and Mrs. Turner was somewhat uncertain
about her John and his lineage), there were three separate Oliver families in the area, with some
overlap. I conclude that the John in question is Mrs. Hunt's John who is apparently not a part our
Oliver family.]

[In 1848, there was only one Levin Oliver (any spelling) in theTrigg tax lists and that was Levin

Hurricane Creek. For the first time, there is listed in 1849, a second Levin, Leaven, Jr., with 50

through 1848. He is listed in the 1850 Trigg census as 35 bn. Va. with a child James, aged 7 but is
not in the 1840 Caldwell or Trigg census. My marriage records do not show a Robert before 1868. The
deed books I read do not show his having sold this land before 1859 but he seems not to have paid
taxes on it. Trigg Co. Estate Settlement Book Q, p.385 contains the settlement of Robert S. Oliver,
dated 23 Dec. 1857, listing his children as Sarah B., Alice V., Mary R. and James M. (No further

Stallings of Trigg for $30 his 1/4th interest in 60 acres on Little River set apart as the dower of
Mrs. Elizabeth Stallings from the estate of her late husband Aaron Stallings, dec'd., said interest
being derived by virtue of his marriage with her daughter. Signed: John X Oliver. Entered 31 Jan.
1853.

[According to my records John Oliver married Betsy Stallings in Trigg Co. on 10/27/1836. I believe
this is the John W. Oliver named as "my good friend" in Joel Motley's will and is probably the John
who was named executor of a Walter Oliver's Caldwell County estate in 1842. He paid taxes on 130 acres
on Hurricane Creek in 1852 Trigg. I have found no deed selling that land altho here he is in
Crittenden in 1853. Henry W. and John were big farmers in Crittenden County in later years. My
father's sister, Millie Oliver, married Floyd Oliver, a grandson of this John W. and his second wife,
Mary Jane Gee. Aunt Millie once gave me a copy of a "genealogy" that someone in Uncle Floyd's family
had compiled. It was a detailed listing of John W.'s descendents by his two wives, Betsy Stallings and
Mary Gee, but contained nothing about his parents or siblings. Later on, I talked to Uncle Floyd's
cousins in Caldwell and Crittenden Co. who told me a lot of "family traditions" that related to the
"three brothers", John W., Henry W. and the third unnamed, who came to Ky. from Va. with many, many
other Olivers. The story goes that they stopped in Trigg Co. for a time, two moved on to Crittenden
and the third moved to Illinois. John and Henry moved to Crittenden and I have never been able to
determine who the third brother was. There is some truth in these traditions. Walter and his wife Mary
(Winn) Oliver, parents of John W. and Henry W., moved to Caldwell County from Fauquier County, VA
before 1820 and settled in a part of Caldwell which transferred to Trigg in the late 1820's.]

[There are a number of other Davis deeds recorded between 1851 and 1858 that I scanned but did not
abstract because they appeared to relate to the Christian Co. Davises. However, by my count, Miles had
sold 100 acres of the 250 he bought and had leased some unspecified amount of land until about 1854.
There ought to be another deed for him.]
