Privates James M Combs and Joseph Blair
Liberty Hall and Cincinnati Mercury, Tuesday, January 3,
1809
Two men of Captain Jervis Cutlers Company were sent by a Lt.
Altun officer across the river to assist Colonel Taylor and to bring some public
boats to Newport.
One became too intoxicated to sit up and was laid on the bottom of the skiff within 100 yards of the Kentucky shore. The drunk turned over and up the skiff. One man Berry Lambert was carried a mile downstream, considerably frost bitten; two others, James M Combs and Joseph Blair were drowned.
