Dr. Julius E Pinguely
The Country Doctor
Julian E Pinguely was born October 9, 1858 in Paris, France to Julius Alphonso Pinguely. His mother's name is not know at this time. His father, Julius was born December 26, 1828 also in Paris, France and died September 8, 1888. He was buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Grants Lick.
Julius immigrated with his parents to the U.S. settling in Tennessee in 1859. His mother died there. His father married his second wife, Clara V. St. Clair in 1859 in Tennessee. Clara was born March 1841 in Germany and immigrated in 1844. She died May 1, 1917 and was also buried in the Oakland Cemetery.
Children born in Tennessee were two sons, Fredrick St Clair December 19, 1860 and Clarence Phillip October 1865; daughter Lillian was born in Cincinnati in 1881. From the 1900 Census, the Pinquely residence was at Persimmon Grove Road and Licking Turn Pike in Grants Lick.
On August 28 1901 Dr. Julian E. married Nellie Baker who was born February 10, 1878; daughter of Thomas Jefferson Baker & Minerva Rosetta Bryan. Their son Douglas Bryan born 1902 and daughter Gwendolyn born 1905; son Donald born 1910. Donald died in 1928 in a plane crash in Cincinnati.
In 1910 Dr. Pinguely family resided at Lot #464 Melbourne Ave in Melbourne. In 1915 Walker Benjamin and Margaret Elizabeth Ashford Newman and family from Newport and were located in Melbourne across from the Pinguelys.
On January 2, 1930 Douglas Bryan Pinguely married Catherine Ida Newman and they had son, Douglas Eugene born in 1933; daughter Donna Nell born in 1934. Ronald Newman says he often rode with Dr. Pinguely caring for his patients in his model T. Dr. Pinguely was Chairman of the Trustees when Melbourne was incorporated in 1912. His brother Clarence Philip was also a trustee.
In the summer of 1917, Dr. Pinguely ran for county commissioner. He died January 16, 1947.
