Isaac Spurgin Deposition
The deposition of Isaac Spurgin aged about 55 or 56 years taken at the house of Jonathan Carmack in the County of Campbell on the 25th day of July 1823. Transcription done by Margaret Hartman.
Question: Have you or not seen said Mercers lower corner of the said survey?
Answer: I became acquainted with said corner about 29 or 30 years ago at the time I settled neare the said corner & in the bonds of Mersers survey.
Question: Do you Know the place or improvement called the Ten Mile Station; who made the same, is it not in the bottom below the Ten Mile Creek, and is it not within the bounds of said Mercers Military Survey? When was the said settlement first made at said station as near as you can recollect?
Answer: The improvement at the tenn mile station was maid about one yeare before I settled on said Mercers Land which wold make it about 1792. The settlement at the tenn mile Station was maid by John Beall, James Millar and John Millar. The said Station is on the Bottom below tenn mile crick.
Question: Did or not your father purchase of a man by the name of John Williams a part of a Tract of land on the Ohio river near and above the Crick called four mile? Is he the same was spoken of by Frank Spilman in his deposition herto annexed? Was Major any part of the said John Williams given or Christian name or do you know whether he ever was in the army or had a Commission as a Major?
Answer: My father did purchase one hundred acres of Land of a man by the name of John Williams on the botem above the mouth of four mile crick. He was cald in the ritings given to my father for said Land John Williams & seynd his name John Williams & at that time was cald Major John Williams. But I no nothing of his having of an Commission as Major & I believe him to be the same man referred to in Frank Spilman deposition and I never knew any man by the name of Major Williams.
