Yes, Vicki, I did record = the conversation. Rene DeLaney called her a couple weeks ago. Eva is a daughter of Riley Hall who was a brother to Alfred Hall. She = is 95 years old. I wanted to ask her more details about our favorite soap opera: The = Alfred Hall and Amanda Story. Rene had specific questions about Alfred and Riley's sister Mary Polly = Tabor. Eva said she knew of her aunt Mary, but never met Mary Polly = Tabor. She did not know if her aunt Mary had any children. She has her uncle Alfred Hall's family information stored away. I think = she was referring to a list of his children (which would be her first = cousins). Eva remembers Alfred's son Charlie coming out to Rainier Oregon at least = once, and living with Alfred and Amanda for a time. She remembered Alfred and Amanda's daughter Sarah dying in 1924.=20 She had heard Alfred Hall preach. Generally on the river bank. = Sometimes in the summer, they would have big Sunday family get = togethers. Uncle Alfred would preach. They would have singings and = baptisms. Eva did not think that Alfred and Amanda attended church = though. Amanda (Alfred's woman) were never married. =20 She thought Alfred came west alone and met Amanda out there. She knew = amanda's parents, the Egans also lived out there. (Sarah's obituary = says she was born in KY and moved to oregon when she was 3 years old). Alfred and brothers Tom and Riley were shoemakers in business together = at one time. Alfred owned quite a bit of property. They rebuilt after the fire. Alfred also had a grocery store. Eva and her family left Rainier in 1925 and moved to Vernonia, OR She = thinks Alfred moved to KY back before then. Eva says Amanda married to Brickey in Rainier, then moved to Vernonia = for a while before moving to Gold Beach, OR. Brickey had been married = before and had one daughter. Brickey was good to aunt Amanda. Eva's neice has 2 pictures of Amanda Egan that Eva gave her. Her name = is Diana Kinzey 8116 NBU? Prague, OK 74864 405-567-4030 Eva says = her neice is a genealogist. Diana and I just talked on the phone also. = She already e mailed us the one picture she has of Amanda. Eva has a couple pictures of Amanda and Brickey together. I hope she = can get us copies of those. She does not have any pictures of Alfred = and Amanda together and does not know of anyone who has any of them = together. She thinks Brickey and amanda married around 1927/28. (The 1930 census = says they have been married for 3 years) Eva says that Press Brickey had a shoe shop in Vernonia, before they = moved on to Gold Beach. Brickey was good to aunt Amanda. All the Hall brothers except Henry were in the show shop business. Henry was in the logging business. Alfred's daughter Sarah was so friendly. =20 Eva went to Sarah's funeral in 1924, and also her graduation shortly = after. They had an empty chair at the graduation in honor of her with = her graduation robe on the chair. they gave her diploma to Alfred and = Amanda. Eva remembers Amanda being pretty emotional at the graduation. = Alfred did not seem as emotional, but she said a lot of men don't show = their emotions. Eva said that Sarah Hall already had a teaching job lined up right after = graduation. (Then, they did not require a college degree to teach). = Sarah was so friendly. Amanda's parents, the Egans lived close to Alfred and Amanda in Rainier. = The Egans were still in Rainier in the 30's. Eva remembers driving her = aunt Amanda to Rainier to see her parents, the Egans. This part was a = little fuzzy, because Eva thinks this was in the 30's or 40's. (I think = the Egans both died in KY in 1936 and 1937) Eva did say she started = driving when she was 16 (1930). Eva says she has a picture of Alfred and Henry's wife Sally. Eva has a box full of pictures that she says she will look through.
