What's New on the Carter County Website

Top 10 reasons for sharing your research on the Carter County Genealogy web site

How to attach a file to an email message

On some pages you can save a copy of a photo/document image to your PC
by placing your mouse pointer on the image and doing a "right click".
Choose the "Save image as" menu option.
On other pages, you'll have to save the page's HTML code to your disk.

In order to make a series of newly added obits easier to search through, you may wish to open the "Obituaries" page in a separate tab.
That way you can more easily switch between the "What's New" list of names and the list of names on the "Obituary" page proper.

Preliminary review of the "Three Slipper Shelter" site in Carter County. Gives you an idea of what a profession archeological site analysis looks like. So much knowledge of our pre-history is lost when artifact collectors destroy an archeological site. It's really no better than vandalism. Three more deed images have been added to the end of the "William Grayson Lands" album. VERY difficult to read, but invaluable. Ooookkk. The map I previously identified as an 1876 US Geological Survey map was actually a Kentucky Geological Survey map. There are now two maps. One is of Greenup, Carter and Boyd Counties, the other is of Greenup, Carter and Lawrence Counties. There are some houses marked with owner names, but few of them are in Carter County. I had a choice of making the maps large, slow, unweldy and readable, or, small and unreadable. We''ll go with "readable" for now. My sympathies to any viewers using a dial-up internet connection. Selected maps that are part of an 1819 survey of the Ohio River. A newspaper article indicates that "every inch" of the Ohio River was surveyed, totaling some 427 pages. The survey had been "lost" for 150 years! The Boyd County library has a bound copy of about 120 of the maps, but I still haven't found a reference to where Tygarts Creek and the Little Sandy enter the Ohio. Wouldn't THAT be a cool thing to see! (Submitted by John W. Grace) 8 March 2011 Maps
