"ONE DIES, TWO INJURED IN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT
"An automobile accident on Saturday evening about half way up the northern side of Walnut Hill on U.S. 127 was the cause of one death and critical injuries to tow others.
"Gary Lee McDonald, 16, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital at around midnight Sunday. He suffered internal injuries. He was not expected to live from the start.
"Miss Nancy Luttrell, daughter of Mrs. Alline Luttrell of Walltown, suffered both legs broken, internal injuries, a knee cap that was shattered, and has severe facial injuries which caused the loss of her front teeth.
"Miss Luttrell was graduated from the School of Nursing at Somerset this spring and passed examination for an R.N. degree, about three weeks ago. She was employed at the Casey County Hospital since graduation where she is well-liked. Her father, Hollie Luttrell, lives in Illinois. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marvice Williams.
"Gary Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Martin of Liberty and Dry Ridge was a rider with Miss Luttrell. He is 15 and in the 8th grade at Liberty. He suffered a broken hip, lost his right eye, has a broken jaw and other injuries.
"Both Martin and Miss Luttrell were taken out of intensive care Monday afternoon and placed in rooms at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
"There is much speculation about how the accident happened. It is known that McDonald attended the Walnut Hill Baptist Church and went in the direction of Liberty. Miss Luttrell was going south.
"The collision was terrific. The engine out of the 1965 Buick McDonald was driving was about 100 feet from where the car stopped. The front end of the 1970 Chevrolet Miss Luttrell was driving was pushed in.
"Funeral services for Gary Lee McDonald were held on Tuesday afternoon of this week at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. Roger Popplewell and Roosevelt Brown officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
"He was born on March 12, 1954, the son of Lonzy "Red" and Helena Murphy McDonald. Both survive.
"He was a brother of Richard, a senior at Eastern University. Also surviving are a grandfather, Luther McDonald of Windsor, and a grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Murphy of Walnut Hill.
