Benjamin lived in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia when George Washington was surveying fort locations in the Winchester, Frederick County, area of Virginia for protection from Indian attacks. Benjamin sold 400 acres for 675 pounds on the south side of Opequon Creek in Frederick County, Virginia that he had inherited from his father, Robert. The land was originally deeded to Robert Allen about 1737 by Jost Hite, founder of the earliest Shenandoh Valley settlement. Daniel Boone's relatives were pioneers near where Benjamin Allen homesteaded in Kentucky. Likewise, Abraham Lincoln's grandfather was a pioneer in the same region of Kentucky. Benjamin's grandson, James G. Allen, served with Abraham Lincoln during the Black Hawk War in Illinois. Provided on: 30 October 2002, By: W. D. Allen Sr. Email: ballensr@roadrunner.com
