Microfiche. Frankfort, Ky.: Kentucky Dept.
for Libraries and Archives.
This series was published by: Office of
the Inspector of Mines (18 -1914); Dept. of Mines(1914-1934); Dept. of
Mines and Minerals (1934-). Included, at various times, are discussions
of the coke industry; miscellaneous tables on transportation, banks, employees,
types of mines, animals
employed, and powder consumption; mine
maps; descriptions of strikes, disasters, and fatalities; comments on mine-related
issues such as coal geology, various minerals, laws, ventilation and other
safety issues, and mining methods. Also present are plates, maps, and diagrams.
In the late 1800s, reports of the Geological Survey are included. In the
1920s, information begins to appear in tabular form, and several reports
include photographs of department personnel and coal mines. In the 1940s,
discussions of mine-related issues are dropped, as the reports focus on
casualty figures, mine directories, and production figures. At this time,
lists of miners who passed examinations for inspector and foreman are included,
as are the names of agency personnel and their photographs. In the 1950s,
the reports begin to include clay mining directories, oil and gas production
figures, and lists of drilling permits. In the 1960s, reports from explosives
and blasting, miner training, and safety sections are included.
