EASTERNKENTUCKY MAILING LIST INFORMATION It is the intent of this mailing list, as the owners, to provide a safe and caring atmosphere for East Kentucky genealogy researchers. My rules have always been few and simple...NO FLAMING and NO OBSCENITIES. Violation of these will be cause for immediate and permanent removal from the list. For those who aren't sure what FLAMING is... it's anything that is rude or argumentative. I reserve the right to judge this, and our judgment will be final. I do ask that all members be considerate of others in posting a message/query to the list. Please always use a proper SUBJECT line, use all caps with surnames, give all pertinent information, always say thank you, and (please, please) be honest about who you are I encourage you to post your surnames often, because we have new members, daily. I also encourage you to continue bringing stories of East Kentucky History and Folklore to the list. Although I have always allowed other things to be posted such as: prayer request, recipes, and clean jokes, I ask that you limit these as a consideration to others. Reply to non-genealogy posts OFF LIST ONLY !!!
Email hoaxes have become so prevalent that they're regarded in some quarters as a threat to network integrity comparable to that of actual computer viruses. In these days of ever-increasing Spam, people are getting fed up with the amount of garbage clogging their inboxes.. zi would rather not have all this "Spam" clogging up the mailing list, so please do not post them to the list at all. A lot of those "virus" warnings are also false. Check them out first from a reliable source before forwarding, or delete them. And, please DO NOT forward them to the list !! I have provided a list of the best anti-hoax resources available at http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyekg/maillist.htm Most of these sites simply provide information, but it's authoritative and very useful information. One offers cut-and-paste templates to send out in answer to particular hoax messages. Bookmark your favorites and share them with those "in need" (you know the ones I mean). Now, on the lighter side. The East Kentucky Chat Room has seen a dramatic increase in participation. Folks from eleven different mailing lists, including Russell Co., Va., are stopping by. We rarely have a night that, at least, one brickwall isn't chipped into! Besides the new contacts that we're all making here, we're being told by many (including first time chatters) that our chat room is a comfortable and fun place to be. We're sorry to say that webtv users can't access this Java enabled chat room, but we're always looking for an acceptable replacement that can include everyone. If you haven't tried the chat room, but think you'd like to contact me Terry Thacker at: TheHobbyBarn@aol.com for instructions. Chat Room hosts are: Mary Pinion and myself (Terry Thacker).
