Elliott County Civil War Veterans of 1890 By Mr. John A. Stegall
Thomas B. Hutchinson: Pvt., Co., A, 68th Ky., MA. He stated that he entered the army on May 20, 1864 and was released June 22, 1964. In 1890, his address was Fielden. The first mentioned I find of Thomas B. Hutchinson is in the 1850 Morgan Co census. At that time, he was 6 years of age and living in the home of his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Todd Mason Hutchinson, Jr. This record indicated that Benton, as he was called, was born in VA, which seems to be true. Peter Hutchinson, Jr. (in fact, not Hutchinsons) was not named in the 1840 Morgan Co census. When the 1860 Morgan Co census was taken, Thomas B., was again listed as Benton, which was his middle name. He was 17 years of age and living in the home of his brother, James H. Hutchinson. Peter, Jr., the father, was living in his son's home, as was James Hutchinson, age 86, perhaps Benton's grandfather. [[NOTE: This must be his and James Harvey's uncle James]] Peter gave his age as being 67, and born in VA; James was born in NC. The 1870 Elliott Co census indicates that T.B. Hutchinson, age 27, had established his own home in Precinct #1, Martinsburg. Thomas Benton was now married, as revealed in the Lawrence Co marriage records. On Sept 17, 1864, Thomas and Sena Green were married in that county. They had 2 children by 1870: D.C., age 5, and William, age 9 months. Sena gave her age as 24 in 1870. In the 1880 Elliott Co census, Thomas B. Hutchinson was 37 years of age; Sena was 35.Children listed were: David C., age 14; William P., 10; Peter, 6; Daniel B., 8; and Francis M., 2; They were living in the Little Fork Precinct in 1880. In 1890, tax records revealed that Thomas B. Hutchinson was still a resident of Little Fork, and the owner of 500 acres of land. Parish Brickey was named as his nearest neighbor. The 1900 Elliott Co census does not name Thomas B. Hutchinson; however, Elizabeth, age 70 (born in June 1829), was living in the home of her son, Daniel B., age 28. Obviously, Thomas B., was deceased.
