What is EK-CORE
East Kentucky Churches and Organizations Responding to Emergencies
(EK-CORE). The non-profit, tax-exempt group is seeking donations of money, building supplies
and volunteer labor to help restore homes damaged by the August 3, 2001 flash flooding.

NEEDS HELP
Johnson Home
The owner of this home has not been able to get this site cleaned off. He
needs a crew that can tare it down and haul it off. Several different agencies
and organizations have been contacted with no one to help. He did receive help
from FEMA and has gotten word from Wiley Shore's NC FRIENDS DISASTER Services,
that they would provide the labor to rebuild this family a home.

NEEDS HELP
Fraley Home
This family needs roofing and inside repairs. They received help from FEMA, and EK-CORE. But the extent of the cost of the needed repairs are more than the family has received. Pictures of the damage to the Fraley home. They were damaged in the Aug. 2001 and in March and May 2002 storms. The more it rains the more damage to the home.
NEEDS HELP
Damages are from the August 2001 flash flood. This home needs roof repair,
a door, flooring, siding replaced and underpinning. Also, after the
repairs it will need to be painted. It has been over a year since the
disaster and the mold has caused decaying of the home. The lady that owns the
home is disable and needs volunteer labor. EK-CORE's unmet needs committee
has approved her for the $500.00 Grant. Anyone interested in repairing
this home please contact Renee D. Thornsberry here at the EK-CORE office.

Carroll Home

Pictures of a home that the floor joist were decaying and the water had ran off the hill with such a force that it moved the blocks off the foundation. A volunteer group from NC FRIENDS coordinator Wiley Shore, did the repairs to the walls and floors. The metal replaced outside on the back of the house was done by family members. United Way of Eastern Kentucky, FRIENDS, Catholic Charities and EK-CORE provided money for materials. Wiley Shore presents a Bible to the family.
