OBEDIAH FULKS/FULTS/FULTZ, born Bet. 1760 - 1765, Russell Co.Virginia, said son of ADAM FULKS/FULTS & Unknown married  MARTHA C. BLANKENSHIP, born Abt. 1772 in Chesterfield Co. Virginia; the 7th child of JOSEPH BLANKENSHIP AND PHOBE SUMMERFIELD, Abt. 1740, Virginia,

Phobe's Father reported to be ? Summerfield. reported to have been an Indian Scout serving with Joseph C. Blankenship. Married October 16, 1787, Bedfrod Co. Martha C. Blankenship Fults died About 1860 in Carter Co. KY. Both are buried in the Stallard Cemetery, Carter Co. KY.

Adam Fulks,  b.  ?  in Fulks Run, Virginia, reported to have died in Kentucky. Only two sons of Adam are known at this time, Obediah and JOHN FULKS/FULTZ, born Abt. 1767 VA.  Adam Fulks/Fults is said son of  MATTHEW FULKS and ?.  Matthew is said son of OBADIAH FULKS  and ?, OBADIAH FULKS/FULTS/FULTZ is reported to have been born abt. 1728, Alsace et Lorraine, France and died  1817 in Buffalo Creek, Kentucky.  Source: Information on Obadiah Fulks/Fults  in the book " Carter County--Pictoral History".   Martha C. Blankenship's father Joseph Blankenship is the son of JOHN BLANKENSHIP  b.Abt.  1695, Virginia. He is the reported 2nd son of

RALPH BLANKENSHIP.    John Blankenship  married ELIZEBTH HUDSON of Virginia.  Ralph Blankenship born between 1660-1662 in Henico Co. VA, married MARTHA ?, reported to have died 1714 VA. Ralph Blankenship reported to be son of RALPH BLANKENSHIP b. abt. 1620 in

Northcumberland Co. England, married Unknown, died in VA.

NOTE:  William "Will" changed back and forth using the Gibson and Collins surnames in

the Perry and Knott Co. Census from 1880 thru 1910 keeping the Collins surname to his

death.  Family tells he used the Collins surname for a person (believe to be Elbe Collins)

who helped raise him.  Some of his children married using the Gibson surname.

1889 Knott County Tax List  - "346.  Gibson, Samuel was living in

District 9.  His closest neighbor was Hale, N.  He owned 150 acres of

land valued at $300.  He owned one mare or colt of common stock valued at

$85 and one bull or cow of common stock with no value given.  His

personal property was valued at $85.  Total value of personal property

and land was $385.  Number of males over 21 was one.  He was a legal

voter and was enrolled in the militia.  Number of children between the

ages of 6 and 20 was 6.  He had 15 lbs. of tobacco and 150 bushels of

corn.  He had planted 15 acres of corn.  135 acres of land was woodland.

One head of cattle was exempt from taxes that had a value of $15."

rock killing him.  John is said to be mean & quick tempered?  He is said to have been married

and possibly had children.  Any information appreciated.

abt.1795, NC and Sarah Ferguson, b. abt. 1795, NC on April 10, 1908, married at J. W.

Baldridge's home in Knott Co. KY.   Artie Gibson Triplett died May 06, 1955, Mousie, Knott

Co. KY, she was hit and killed instantly  by a semi-truck.   Ellis Triplett died December 27,

1986, Knott Co. KY.  Both buried in the Campbell  Cemetery,  Mousie, Knott Co. KY.

1868 is believed to be the son of Elick Row & Bethann ?;  married on Oct. 20, 1892 at W.B.

Alex Gibson Died  *Abt. 1928-35, Reported killed by someone or by a train at Allen, Floyd

County, KY? or possibly in Harlan, KY    *Any information Appreciated                

*NOTE:  Have never been able to find his death record or where he is buried?  Cousin

Emmitt Triplett says he remembers his mother Arty Gibson Triplett walking about 5 miles to

taking a bus from near Paintsville, Johnson Co.KY to the funeral, he believes it was 1928.  At

this time Ellis and Artie Gibson Triplett were living on the farm owned by Artie's sister and

brother-in-law Sarah Gibson and Theodore Walker in Johnson Co. KY.

x*BALLARD GIBSON, b. Abt. 1896, Lackey, Floyd Co. KY. Never married.? d. Aft. 1920,

Washington, D.C.  He maybe buried in KY or OH; Cousin Emmitt Triplett reported that his

niece Tressie Smith PICKLESIMIER took care of the burial arrangements                

*NOTE:  Older family members say that Ballard may not be a son of Samuel Gibson; but a

Wallen?  No, proof found, he was always listed with the surname Gibson. 1910 Floyd

Co.Census,  Ballard Gibson living with ELIJAH WALLEN, widower of  ELVIRA COLLINS

WALLEN (dau.of  ELBE COLLINS & *CATHARINE "KATE, CATY" GIBSON?) Ballard

Gibson had part of his leg taken off in a train accident, he had a wooden pegleg.  He was

called Pegleg Gibson.

Samuel Gibson died October 1898 in Knott County, KY, found in Knott Co. Ky *Court Records dated Oct. 04, 1898 a request for money to be paid for burial clothes by Caroline Gibson, widow of Samuel Gibson.  Family members report that Samuel and Caroline were out in the pasture "shoo-in" their

cows when Caroline threw a rock and hit Samuel in the leg, causing a large cut.  After self doctoring

the wound it grew worse; sent word for the doctor to come out to their farm.  By the time the doctor

arrived gangreene had set in and Samuel's leg had to be amputated; the doctor spent a few days at

the farm before leaving.  A few days later the wound began to bleed again, Caroline could not

stop the bleeding and Samuel bleed to death before the doctor could return to the farm. Source: Bertha  Gibson Jones. SAGR.

*NOTE:  It appears that Samuel Gibson still owned some land when he died in 1898; my own feeling is that there was not enough cash  for his burial clothes and funeral. SAGR.      

 

Samuel Gibson is buried in the Travis Combs-Ramey Cemetery, Softshell, Knott Co. KY., no tombstone. This cemetery is near where Samuel's farm was (this area of Perry Co. became Knott Co. in 1894), he lived a short distance from where the cemetery now is; and he is said to have been the first person buried in this area "cemetery" Along with Samuel is his mother Catharine "Kate,Caty" Gibson, tombstone, unreadable print; near her is son William "Will" Gibson/Collins, his wife Martha Smith; son John Gibson/Ramey, his wife Christiner Combs; and Joseph Gibson, grandson of Samuel Gibson, son of William "Bill" Harrison Gibson .

NOTES for CATHARINE "KATE, CATY' (Unknown maiden name) GIBSON:

Born Bet. 1834 - 1836 Scott Co. VA.  Age figured from 1860 Floyd Co. census;

but some say she was born about 1822?

Died Aft. 1910 She does not appear in the 1920 KY census.

Buried: Catharine"Kate, Caty" Gibson is buried near her son William "Will" Gibson/Collins in the Travis Combs-Ramey Cemetery at Softshell, Knott Co. KY. Her tombstone has no readable lettering.  Also buried in this same cemetery are  sons William "Will" & wife  Martha Smith Collins,  John Gibson Ramey, & wife Chirstine Combs Ramey,  her son Samuel Gibson,  Samuel Gibson &

Samuel's grandson  Joseph Gibson, son of William Harrison and Minnie Gibson.

This cemetery is next to Samuel Gibson's farm;  believe this area of Floyd Co. became Knott Co. in 1894,  he lived a short distance from where the cemetery now is; and he is said to have been the first person to buried in this cemetery, in 1898. Gr. Gr. Granddaughter,  Sarah Ann Gibson Roepke, descendant of Samuel Gibson)
