FLOYD COUNTYS FIRST JUSTICE OF THE PEACE Dec 27, 1799...Gov. of KY appointed James Harris, Neely McGuire, Henry Stratton, , Goodwin Lycans, James Ewington and Barnet Wording FLOYD COUNTYS FIRST JUDGES Dec 27, 1799, Gov of KY appointed John McIntire, James Young, and Jesse Spurlock as the first judges of the Court of Quarter Sessions FIRST FLOYD COUNTY COURTHOUSE Was built in Prestonsburg in 1799 and was destroyed by
fire on Monday, April 18, 1808. MONDAY, APRIL 18, 1808, At the home of William James Mayo in
Prestonsburg , the courthouse had
burned, circuit court was held. Circuit Court held at the house of Joesph James and Battis Jerome in
Prestonsburg. Abram Beavers, Foreman, Michael Millions, John Hatcher, John S. Baisden, Hiram Stratton, John Damron, Moses Preston, R. Damron, Richard Priest, John Sellards, John Brown, James P. Harris, Edward Dorton, Tandy Stratton, Joesph Ford, M. Edwards, were sworn and empanelled a Grand Jury , and was charged by H.C. Bruce, ESQ; retired to consult on their presentments and after some time returned and presented....Court adjourned
