husband of Josephine Meade Yates, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2001
at his residence. He was born October 12, 1927 in Garrett, Ky., the son
of the late Andrew Jackson Yates and Maggie Moore Yates. Mr. Yates was a
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Martin, Ky.,
a retired coal miner, and a member of the United Mine Workers
Association, Local No. 1373, Wayland, Ky. Survivors include five sons,
Steven Yates and Denzil Yates Jr., both of Printer, Ky., Danny Yates and Tim Yates,
both of Garrett, Ky., and Carter Yates, Martin, Ky.; five daughters, Connie
Mullins and Pearlene Yates, both of Printer, Ky., Nadine Herrell, Columbus, OH,
Helen Isaac, Martin, Ky., LaDonna Briggs, Prestonsburg, Ky., two sisters, Ester
Hall Lawson, Harold, Ky., and Katherine Meade, Printer, Ky., 16 grandchildren
and 10 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one
son, Chris Yates, two daughters, Gwinna Davis Carroll and Anna Doris Yates; two
brothers, Andrew Yates Jr., and Clifford Yates; one sister, Ethel Elliott; four
grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral services for Denzil Yates were
conducted Tuesday, December 18, 2001, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin,
Ky., with the elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
officiating. Burial followed in the Meade Cemetery, Printer, Ky., under the
professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Kentucky. Visitation was at
the church. Pallbearers for Denzil Yates were Craig Isaac, Chris Yates, Shannon
Yates, Justin Yates, Brian Yates, Allan Mullins, Ralph Justice, Randy Conway,

Hill Yates, passed away, Sunday, June 27, 2004, in the University of Kentucky
Medical Center, Lexington. He was born May 20, 1948, in Floyd County, the son of
the late Preston and Laura Kidd Yates. He was a former coal miner. In addtion to
his wife, he is survived one son, Grady Lee Yates of Honaker; two daughters:
Stephanie Lynn Sanders of Prestonsburg, and Mistie McCrae Yates of Honaker; two
brothers: Palmer Yates of Honaker, and Elmer Yates of Huron, Ohio; four sisters:
Naomi Yates of Honaker, Velma Lawson of Harold, Loretta Boyd of Wakeman, Ohio,
and Katherine Creasy of Mulberry Grove, Illinois; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services for Darrell Yates will be conducted Wednesday, June 30, at 1
p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Junior Kidd officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hunter Cemetery, at Honaker, under the professional

Monday, February 26, 2001, at Henry Ford Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan,
following an extended illness.
Born on May 11, 1936, in Weeksbury, he was the son of the late Will and Siltanie
Hall Yates. He was a truck driver for Parcel Delivery Company. He is survived by
his wife, Maudie Isaac Yates. Other survivors include three sons, Johnny Arthur
Yates, Kenneth Yates and Homer Yates Jr., all of Michigan; three daughters,
Deborah Yates, Iris Ryder and Sharon Coleman, all of Michigan; two brothers,
Robert Yates of Martin, Donald Yates of Lockport, Illinois; three sisters,
Billie Lou Stegall of Hi Hat, Yvonne Webster of Springfield, Ohio, Hazel Hall of

1999, in Martin. She was born November 30, 1979, in Morristown, Tennessee,
d/o Donald Ray Yates and Judy Kaye Anderson Yates, of Eastern. She was
a student at Prestonsburg Community College, part-time Wal-Mart employee,
a member of the Kentucky National Guard. She attended Praise Assembly of
God in Prestonsburg. Survivors, other than her parents, include one sister,
Loretta Darlene Crace of Huntington, West Virginia; paternal grandparents,
Dora Evelyn Willis Yates of Del Rio, Tennessee, and maternal grandparents,
Ollie James Anderson and Janvee Ball Anderson of Myra. Funeral services
were conducted Tuesday, May 4, at 2 p.m., at the Piney Grove Missionary
Baptist Church in Del Rio, Tennessee, with Rev. Bill Murr officiating.
Local services were Monday, May 3, at 3 p.m., in the Hall Funeral Home
Chapel, Martin, with Rev. J.M. Sloce officiating. Burial was in Piney Grove

Age 94, of Perkinston, Mississippi, formerly of Floyd
County, the wife of the late Joe Yates, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2005, in
Stone County Hospital, Wiggins Mississippi. She was born November 28, 1910, in
Printer, the daughter of the late James Floyd Stewart and Mona Brewer Akers
Stewart. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in
Martin. Survivors include one son, Roy (June) Yates of Perkinston, Mississippi;
a daughter-in-law, Joyce Yates; five grandchildren, and nine
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and
one son, Manifred Yates. Funeral services for Malta Stewart Yates were conducted
Monday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin,
with Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, in Ivel, under the professional

McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born April 1, 1912,
at Printer, a son of the late Robert Lee and Edith Ray Yates. He was
a retired gas company employee and carpenter, and a member of the
Old Time Regular Baptist Church at Printer. He was preceded in death
by his wife, Martha Belle Hall Yates. He is survived by two sons,
Warren G. Yates of Harold and Franklin D. Yates of Honaker; five
daughters, Inez Kilburn and Ruby Wallen, both of Martin, and Ella
Mae Pyne, Vannie Dameron and Norma J. Mature of Printer; 23
grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild. Funeral services for Marion Yates were
Sunday, December 24, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel at Martin, with
Denver Meade and Harold Dameron officiating. Burial followed in the

of Lorain, Ohio, died Thursday night, September 25, 2003, at his brother’s
home in Loudonville, after a 6-month illness. He was born February 7, 1949, in
Prestonsburg. He lived in New London from 1959 to 1967, when he moved to the
Lorain area. He was a 1967 graduate of New London High School. He had served in
the U.S. Navy. He worked for the City of Lorain and was a member of Church on
the North Coast in Lorain, and was a member of the Amherst Eagles. He loved
music and traveling. He is survived by his wife, of eight years, Terah (Morrow)
Yates; a daughter, Rachel and Jason Orgen of Vermilion; two sons, Nate and Lydia
Yates of Amherst and Ryan Yates at home; two sisters, Marla and Don Helms, and
Tammy Yates all of Ashland; a brother, Lloyd and JoAnne Yates of Loudonville;
his mother, Estelle Schenk of Ashland; three grandchildren; two nieces and three
nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Yates, and his
step-father, Robert Schenk. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Monday,
September 29, at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London, with
Pastor Louis Kayatin of Church on the North Coast officiating. Visitation was at
the funeral home. Memorials if desired may be made to a favorite charity.

student at Magoffin County High School. Other survivors include a brother,
Randall Yielding of Royalton; a half brother, Matthew Yielding of Michigan; one
sister, Chelsea Young of Royalton; half-sisters, Adeana Young and Danielle
Yielding, both of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom
and Viola Parsons, formerly of Allen. Funeral services will be conducted

Yonts, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at her residence. She was born
July 12, 1914 in Kite, the daughter of the late H,. C. Hall and Margaret Hall.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Little Rock Old Regular Baptist Church,
in Bevinsville. Survivors include four sons: Charles E. (Jean) Yonts of Columbia
Station, Ohio, Dennel (Sonia) Yonts of Spencer, Ohio, Thomas L. (Yvonne) Yonts
of Bevinsville, and Larry (Teresa) Yonts of Deane; four daughters: Carine (Paul)
Blaskay of Mulberry, Florida, Essalene (Paul) Monette of Jacksonville, Florida,
Mabelline Yonts of Kodak, Tennessee, and Ester Mae Darovitz of Phoenix, Arizona,
23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In
addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Allen
Virgil Yonts; a daughter, Charlene Yonts; a son-in-law, Louie Darovitz; two
brothers: John Ballard Hall, and Ervin Hall; and a sister, Connie Stacy. Funeral

Youmans, both of Minnie, Ky.; one daughter, Delilah Lorraine “Midge” Youmans
Blackburn of Minnie, Ky.; one brother, W.C. “Buster” Turner of Minnie, Ky.;

March 3, 2000, at Highlands Regional Medical Center of an extended illness.
Born on November 27, 1915, in Oneida, Tennessee, he was the son of the
late William M. Younce and Ella Phillips. He was a former miner at Sandy
Valley Coal Company at Water Gap, and former supervisor of Floyd County
Conservation District for 18 years. He was a member of the United Baptist
Church; a member of United Mine Workers of America; and Honorable Order
of Kentucky Colonels. He is survived by his wife, Opal Calhoun Younce.
Other survivors include two sons, Leon Younce of Prestonsburg, Adis Younce
of Salyersville; one brother, Sylvester Younce of East Point; seven grandchildren,
12 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren Burial was in the
Younce Family Cemetery, Prestonsburg Serving as pallbearers were Larry
Leon Younce, Adis Blake Younce, Hobert Brad Younce, Larry Kevin Younce,

Weeksbury, was born March 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Sally Ann and Hillard Gibson. She left this life on September 27, 2006, to go home. Ida
married Earl Younce on July 12, 1956, at Wheelwright, Kentucky, and to this
marriage came 13 children. Ida was preceded in death by two sons: Melvin Younce
and Garry Younce; four brothers: Luther Gibson, Dewey Gibson, Ballard Gibson,
and Ellis Gibson, and seven sisters: Draxie Collins, Hattie Cole, Zettie
Johnson, Ethel Calhoun, Lettie Hall, Maggie Campbell and Mary Liz Caudill. Ida
is survived by 11 beloved children and their spouses: Janet (Paul Dean) Hall,
Sherry (Buford) Thomas, Johnny (Sharon) Younce, Glenda (Olin Gene) Amburgey,
Kenny Younce, Ricky (Mary Jane) Younce, Paul (Cathy) Younce, Peggy (Jeff)
Edwards, Terry (Patricia) Younce, Sammy (Lori) Younce, and Brenda (Tommy) Hall;
29 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchldren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 14
step-great-grandchildren. Ida came to Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church many
years ago, and became a member in September, 1976. She was laid to rest at the

Highlands Regional Medical Center. Born August 30, 1914, in Water Gap, she was
the daughter of the late Elzie Calhoun and Donie Wallen Calhoun. She was a
homemaker, and a member of New Hope United Baptist Church. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Hobert Younce, on March 3, 2000. They were married for 63
years. Survivors include two sons: Leon Younce (Ruth) of Prestonsburg, and Adis
Younce (Wanda), of Salyersville; three sisters: Easter Belle Slone of Blue
River, Loma Hatfield of Prestonsburg, and Blanche Mae Younce of River; seven
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; two
step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren. Opal had some
very special friends who helped care for her: Birdie Cole, Darlene Holland,
Christine Holland, Janie Goodman Wright, and Wanda Bentley. In addition to her
husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Raymond Calhoun, Graham
Calhoun, and Arlen Calhoun. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 27, at
11 a.m., at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Adam Dwayne Marshall and
Willard Ousley officiating. Interment was in the Younce Family Cemetery,
Spurlock Creek Road, Prestonsburg. Pallbearers: Larry Leon Younce, Adis Blake
Younce, Hobert Brad Younce, Larry Kevin Younce, Matthew Ray Craft, and Daniel
Leon Craft. The family has entrusted arrangements to the Carter Funeral Home.

Medical Center, Prestonsburg. Born May 25, 1906, in Oneida, Tennessee, he was
the son of the late William Riley and Ella Phillips Younce. He was a retired gas
company employee; a member of the Third Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, where he
was a deacon for 50 some years; a Kentucky Colonel; a member of Zebulon Masonic
Lodge, 273, in Prestonsburg, and a veteran of World War I, serving in the Army
and Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Garrett Younce.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Cledith (wife, Elsie) Younce of
Greenville, Tennessee, Sylvester Jr., (wife, Kathy) Younce of Silver Springs,
Florida, Delmon (wife, Elsie) Younce of Las Vegas, Nevada, Wendell Younce of
Springfield, Virginia, Gennis Younce of East Point; daughters and sons-in-law,
Vonda (husband, Bill) Ladd of Petersburg, Michigan, Dottie Hastings of East
Point, Trena (husband, Woody) Ratliff, of East Point; 14 grandchildren, 24

on December 27th, 1909, the she was the daughter of the late Sarah JaneConn
Maynard, and Robert Maynard and a member of the Baptist church. Her husband,
Alvin Young, preceded her in death. Survivors include: one daughter
Joan Cooper of Harold; three children and four great-grandchildren.Funeral
services will be conducted Saturday February 20, 11a m at the J.W. Call
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Ferguson Cemetery, at Harold.

Jessie Roger, Tracy, Denzil, Ben, and Nelson Young; four sisters, Toy Mae

was in the Young Family Cemetery at Varney.

84, of Garrett, wife of Danny "Tucker" Yates, died Saturday, November 3 at her
residence. She was born March 27, 1923 in Garrett, a daughter of the late Ben
and Lizzie Patton Lyons. Gracie was a homemaker and member of the Hueysville
Church of Christ. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son Kenneth
Sturgill, his wife Paula, Plymouth, Oh., eight daughters, Barbara Shepherd, her
husband Lowell, Avilla, In., Erma Johnson, her husband Bruce, Plymouth, Oh.,
Beatrice Haney, her husband Chris, Paintsville, Sheila Jackson, Garrett, Louise
Yates, her husband Tim, Garrett, Connie Newsome, her husband Denver, McDowell,
Lucy Samons, her husband Lawrence, Garrett, Elizabeth Joseph, her husband
Robert, Prestonsburg, 24 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and her beloved
companion, "Bussy Boy" Buster. Preceding her in death were her parents, her
husband Maynard Hoover, one brother, George K. "Buster: Lyons, and one sister,
Virginia "Sissy" Smith. The funeral service for Gacie Yates will be conducted
Wednesday, November 7 at 2 P.M. in the Hueysville Church of Christ, Hueysville,
with Chester Varney officiating, Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery,
Maytown, with the Hall Funeral Home, Martin, caring for those arrangements.

Age 62, of Printer, died Nov. 15th at his residence. Born son of Marion Yates
and the late Martha Bell Hall Yates. survivors include father, two brothers,
Frank and Warren G. Yates; five sisters,Ella Mae Pyne, Inez Kilburn, Vannie
Damron, Ruby Wallen and Norma Jean Mature. Burial was in the Meade Branch
Cemetery at Printer, KY.
