Samuel Tracy
Samuel Tracy lived in Culpepper County, Virginia before coming to Kentucky, although, his birth place and date have not been documented at this time. And, his parentage is in question. Although not documented, it is believed Samuel may have been a brother to George Tracy, Sr., who died in Garrard County, Kentucky and whose children migrated to Franklin County. There are strong connections with the Parrent family of the Bridgeport area of Franklin County in both the family of George Tracy, Sr. and Samuel Tracy. Shortly after coming to Kentucky, Samuel purchased land on the Salt River, then a part of Anderson County, Kentucky. The maiden name of Samuel's wife has not been documented. However, in 1803 she is referred to as Ann Tracy and listed as a charter member of the Salt River Church. Samuel later sold his land in Anderson County and his wife, Ann, was listed on the deed as Nancy. On December 14, 1785, in Culpepper County, Virginia a Samuel Trascey was witness to the will of Ann White of Culpepper County. It is very probable Ann White is the mother of Nancy "Ann" and the mother-in-law of Samuel Tracy.
Samuel Tracy died in Franklin County, Kentucky about 1805. He left a will dated February 20, 1804 and filed for probate on June 17, 1805 in Franklin County court. He named, son John Tracy and daughter, Polly Faught. Also named were, Betsy Parrent, James Tracy and Peggy Tracy, however, no relationship was stated. Samuel did not name any bequest for a wife. Children of Samuel Tracy and his wife Nancy "Ann" are believe to be: John Tracy, who married Catherine Faught in Shelby County, Kentucky, December 8, 1800; Mary "Polly" Tracy, married Leonard Faught on June 29, 1801; Elizabeth "Betsy" Tracy, who married in Franklin County on January 24, 1798 to John Parrent; James Tracy (died about 1810); Margaret "Peggy", married Thomas Parrent on December 20, 1806 in Franklin County and William Tracy, not mentioned in the will. A William Tracy died about 1804 in Franklin County and may have preceded his father in death, therefore not mentioned in Samuel's will.
