Hugh Edward Prather, was born on May 2nd, 1878, the son of Doctor Hugh Logan Prather, M.D. (9 August 1854 Fulton County, Kentucky-27 September 1878 Hickman, Fulton County, Kentucky) and Mary Lavinia “Morrow” Prather (23 September 1855 Newton County, Missouri). When his father died, the family residence was in Mississippi County, Missouri, his father died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1878 in Hickman, Fulton County, Kentucky, along with two of his brothers (Hugh Edwards Prather’s uncles), George Basil Prather (1847 Fulton County, Kentucky-2 October 1878 Fulton County, Kentucky) and Doctor Richard Catlett Prather, M.D. (1851 Fulton County, Kentucky-18 September 1878 Fulton County, Kentucky.
Doctor Prather was graduated from the University of Louisville, School of Medicine and was first honor man of his class. He served his internship at the Louisville City Hospital. He returned to Hickman to a general Practice in medicine and surgery. He was a democrat, and was health officer of Fulton County. He belonged to Methodist Episcopal Church South, was a member of its Official Board. He was a Mason, belonged to the American, Kentucky, Fulton County, Southern, and to the Military Surgeons Medical Associations. He was also surgeon for the Mengel Box Company of Hickman and an examiner for the United States Public Health Service.
On 8 February 1900 he married Sue Elizabeth Murphey (28 June 1881 Fulton County, KY - 24 September 1979 Fulton County, KY), a daughter James Knox Murphey of Obion County, TN; a Confederate Veteran. They had 3 sons, Richard Givens, Doctor Hugh Logan and James Murphey Prather. Their residence was at 306 East Moulton Street in Hickman.
He was member and medical examiner of the Draft Board of Fulton County, and then on 26 July 1917 he was commissioned a Captain in the Medical Corps and was on active service at the United States Army Base Hospital 59 at Rimau-court, France. He received his honorable discharge at Camp Dix New Jersey on 23 February 1919.
Doctor Prather died on the 1st of June 1935, and he and his wife are buried in the Hickman City Cemetery. Their grave site is a non typical east - west site but a north - south burial.

Grandfather Richard Cox Prather (18 December 1818,

1848 to 1854 he served as sheriff of Fulton County, KY. His wife was Martha
Jane Givens (22 January 1819, Trimble County, KY. -29 December 1891, Fulton
County, KY.). They were married 27 October 1840 at La Grange, KY.
Great Grandfather Thomas Prather (28 March 1795 Jefferson County, KY. -25 December 1843 Jefferson County, KY. He served in the war of 1812 with General Jackson at New Orleans, LA. His wife was Elizabeth Cox (19 July 1794 Powhattan County, VA. - 21 July 1864 Jefferson County, KY). They were married 24 February 1818 in Jefferson County, KY.
Great Great-grandfather Basil Prather, a soldier under General Morgan during the American Revolution.
Uncle Thomas Alexander Prather, Sr. (17 October 1844 Fox Hill, Jefferson County, KY. -17 October 1938 Fulton County, Kentucky), a Confederate Veteran, serving under General Nathan Bedford Forrest, in Henderson’s Scouts. (Reference Thomas Alexander Prather Fulton County Civil War Veterans)
