Francis Abe Carr Thompson
14 Aug. 1899 - 6 June 1990

   Francis Abe Carr Thompson, better known to most as "Abe", was born the 14th day of August 1899 in Fulton Co., Kentucky; the son of John M. Thompson and Gertrude Browder. He was married in Danville, Kentucky on 14 October 1934 to Miss Anna Culton. Two children were born to this union; John M. Thompson II and Gertrude Anna Thompson. Abe died in Fulton Co., Kentucky on the 6th of June 1990.

   He was living in Paducah, Kentucky when he was inducted into the Army Corps of Engineers in 27 June 1942. He was an Electrical Engineer and had been commissioned at the University of Kentucky on June 23rd. His first assignment was as resident engineer at the Kentucky Ordinance Works; a post he held from 16 Sept. 1942 until 8 Aug. 1943. During that time, on 6 April 1943 he was promoted to the rank of Captain, where he was in charge of construction, which also included Camp Campbell, Camp Breckenridge and Evansville, Indiana.

   His next duty was in Fort Wayne, Indiana from 8 Aug. 1943 until the 13th of January 1945. While stationed at Fort Wayne his duties included Baer Field, Railroad Unit, Elkhart and South Bend, Indiana.

   He then returned to the Kentucky Ordinance Works until 1946, and was promoted to Major on 20 Sept. 1946. Nine days later he was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey where he was discharged from the service. He received the Army Commendation Ribbon during his time in the service.
