John Betts, the son of John and Sarah Ann Betts, was born in New York City, New York on the 5th day of October 1804. His first wife's name is unknown, but he was married a second time, to Miss Mariah McClain on the 20th day of May in 1858 in Fulton Co., Kentucky. He died in Hickman, Fulton Co., Kentucky on the 26th of December 1874, he was a tavern keeper.
He was a drummer boy during the War of 1812 in James Porter's Company of the United States Infantry. He was granted a pension (SC-9980) and his wife Mariah applied for for a widow's pension (WC-31000) after his death.
