Deed of Ephriam Pennington & Joseph Headrick, 1823

Know all men by these presents that I EPHRIAM PENNINGTON of the County of Garrard and state of Kentucky have for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred and eighty four Dollars to me in hand paid by Mr. JOSEPH HEADRICK the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged bargained and sold unto the said JOSEPH HEADRICK ten slaves towit John, Sam, and Abraham, and Albert, Caty, Sally, Harriet, Esther and Nancy, and James, To have and to hold the said negro slaves unto the said JOSEPH HEADRICK and his heirs forever, And the said EPHRIAM PENNINGTON for himself and his heirs the said negro slaves unto the said JOSEPH HEADRICK and his heirs against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall and will forever warrant and defend. And whereas also the condition of the above is such that should the aforesaid EPHRIAM PENNINGTON pay to the said JOSEPH HEADRICK on or before the first day of January 1825 One hundred and forty Dollars in _____ current money of the United States, on the first day of January 1826 four hundred seventy two Dollars in like money and also on the first day of January 1827 to further sum of Four hundred and twenty two Dollars of the money afresaid, then this to be void and of none effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.

In witness whereof I have my hand and seal subscribed and set this 30th day of October 1823.
