History of Win, Kentucky

Just when the Win Post Office was established isn't known, but originally it was located on Tick Lick and Ben Cantrell was its first postmaster. Because he was living on Robert Winn's property and the office was located there, Ben proposed the name Win for the office and that name was accepted by the Post Office Department.

Later the office was moved to the head of Hargis Creek and Arby Spradlin became postmaster.

In 1925, Hollie Lemaster became postmaster and moved the post office to his store in what had once been a school house at the mouth of Oil Branch of Little Paint Creek.

When Hollie retired in 1955, Hope Blanton (Mrs. Clyde Blanton), became postmistress and moved the office to her home about a half a mile south of its Oil Branch location.

In September 1961, Ruth Hill (Mrs. Ollie Hill), became postmistress and moved the office to the mouth of Ground Hog Branch of Little Paint Creek and within a half a mile of where once the Flannery Post Office had been.

As a result of the Paint Creek Dam Project the Win Post Ofice was abolished on December 2, 1977.

Information concerning the name, original location, and first postmaster was provided in 1974, by Leck Meade, who was 99 years young.

Robert Winn's first wife was Leck's aunt, Hulda Meade.
