This Indenture made this 8th day of January
1828, Witnesseth that Lot P i t m a n, Clerk of the Laurel County Court
by order of Jarvis Jackson, Jed. Hibbard, William G. Pitman, and David
Weaver, gentlemen Justices of the peace for sd. County, do place and bind
John Farris, orphan, of James Farris Dec'd, aged 10 years the (not filled
in) day of (not filled in ) last past apprentice to John Philips with him
to dwell, and him to serve, from the date hereof until the sd. apprentice
shall arrive to the age of 21 years. During sd. term the said apprentice,
his said master shall faithfully serve on all lawful buisness and shall
honestly, and obediantly in all things, demean himself toward his master
and all his lawful commands obey during said term,. and the said John Philips
and Willis Bunton his security for themselves, their heirs, etc. and adm.
doth covenant and agree to and with the said Lot P i t m a n his representativs
and successors in office that he the sd. John Farris as an apprentice in
the trade and avocation of a farmer shall well in a trust during the term
aforesaid, and provide and allow the said apprentice sufficent meat,
drink, apparel, washing, lodging, and mending
and all other things fit and necessary for an apprentice and shall teach
or cause him to be taught reading, writting, and common arithmetic,
including the rule of three and pay him three pounds, ten shillings and
a decent new suit of clothes at the expiration of sd. term of service.
