In this microcopy are reproduced the population schedules of the fifth census (1830) of the United States. The schedules for each State or Territory comprise one or more volumes, and the volumes are arranged

alphabetically by name of State or Territory and thereunder by volume number. Each volume has been photographed on a seperate roll;Volume 1 of the Alabama Schedules appears on Roll 1, and Volume 13 of the Virginia schedules appears on Roll 201,which closes the microcopy.

The 10 volumes of schedules for Kentucky are reproduced on Rolls 33 - 42 of the microcopy. Population data were returned seperately for each of the 83 counties. The schedules are arranged by county in alphabetical order, except that Butler county precedes Bullitt County, Cumberland County precedes Clay County, Hardin County follows Henry County, and Pendleton County follows Pulaski County.

These volumes are in the National Archives where they constitute part of Record Group No. 29, Records of the Bureau of the Census. Enries in a particular volume may be cited as follows : National Archives; Record Group 29,Records of the Bureau of the Census ; Fifth Census (1830) , population schedules, vol. {number of volume cited}, sheet {number of sheet cited}.

The information in the schedules is presented under the names of heads of families and comprises, for each family, facts of the age-group distribution of its members (male and female) of race (including a distinction between free and slave Negroes), and of physical disabilities. The only names that appear in the scedules , therefore, are the names of heads of families or of individuals who were not enumerated within a family or household unit.

Occasionally, affidavits attesting to the posting of the returns have been inscribed on or attached to the schedules, and these affidavits have been photographed as they occur in the volume.

There are a total of thirteen columns of males and females ranging in age from 0 to 10 years of age to 100 and

upwards of age.

The Number of Persons Within my Division Consisting of One Thousand Nine Hundred and

Eighty Five White Males and One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty one White Females
