Webb Cemetery
Located in Webbville on Rt. 1 Submitted by Frankie Perry Located on Route 1 in Webbville, Lawrence County, Kentucky. This cemetery follows the ridge and can be seen from KY Route 1. According to John Pennington in a newspaper article (Big Sandy News?), dated May 24, 1951, reporting the cleaning of the cemetery: “The Webbville Cemetery… overlooks the Dry Fork on the west and the Caney Fork on the east and commands a panoramic view of the country side. The cemetery, began in the latter part of the eighteenth century, now contains many Anglo-Saxon names as the following: Bailey, Black, Boggs, Brooks, Cains, Duncan, Fraley, Giles, Greene, Gwinn, Hicks, Holbrook, Holmes, Hunter, Johnson, Jordan, Keller, Kitchen, Kazee, Lester, Loop, Meade, Moore, Mullins, Nickell, O’Bryan, Patterson, Pennington, Perkins, Perry, Poole, Quizenberry, Riggle, Rigsby, Rucker, Shepherd, Stafford, Steele, Sizemore, Skaggs, Stewart, Triplett, Watson, Waddell, Webb, Williams, Wright and Young. Many of these graves have only a sandstone marker and through the years weathering has almost destroyed them. One of our oldest citizens, G.W. Webb (86) stated that Riley Webb was the first to be interred in the cemetery, and a V-shaped marker verifies it.” Regina Diamond Tackett [Route 4, Box 10230, Louisa, KY, telephone 606-686-2392, rtackett@foothills.net] copied the cemetery on July 30, 1985. Both Regina and Frankie Perry [Box 216 Haines, AK 99827, telephone 907-767-5545, flap@aptalaska.net] made additional notes to the cemetery listing that Frankie retyped May 2002. Information given here was found on the stone. Words such as Mother, Father or other sentences were included on the grave marker. Information given in parenthesis ( ) was found in other sources such as death records, marriage records, obituaries, etc. If in doubt of a date given, double check as human error or typing mistakes cannot be helped. Some of the stones were very hard to read. In the first part of the cemetery, there were many graves marked with rocks that have not been identified. Also, there may have been some burials since the cemetery was copied. Please send any additions or corrections to this listing to either Regina or Frankie.
