To School Days

In the early days the County had only 3 or 4 month schools. So there were “Subscription Schools” farmers with children, who had sufficient house room, would hire a teacher and any tenant or renters children could come free. If a nearby farmer wanted to send his children he would pay a portion of the teacher’s salary. Teachers board and room were free (for the teacher, provided by the supporting farmer)*
