RESEARCH TRIPS

Members of the Louisville Genealogical Society have chosen Allen County Library - Fort Wayne, Indiana for the 2012 Spring Trip. The dates are Monday, May 14 - Saturday, May 19. Sunday, May 13, is Mother’s Day, if you wish to make reservations for Sunday also, please be sure to let Janet Baughman know when you contact her.

You can make reservations for the entire week, or as many days you need. Some members are going for only two or three days.

If you need a room mate, Janet will try to find one for you to share expenses.

10 rooms have been reserved at the Baymont Inn & Suites in Fort Wayne. Each room has two double beds, is non-smoking & Guaranteed Late Arrival if you need it. This motel is close to the Library and the Genealogical Rate is $55.00 + tax for each room.

Please make your reservations through Janet. She needs to keep track of how many rooms are needed. She need syour name, number of days you’ll be staying and if you need Guaranteed Late Arrival.

The Allen County Library Hours are
Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The 2012 Salt Lake City trip will take place Sunday, September 16 - Sunday, September 23.

Seven rooms have been reserved for members at the Carlton Hotel, 140 East South Temple which is about 5 blocks from the Family History Center.

The rates are as follows:
2 Bedroom Suite with 2 Queen Beds - cost for 3 people $590.00 per week (if you’re interested in the Suite, please call Janet for reservations)
2 Double Beds - 2 people $425.00 + tax for the week (this is for the room, not per person)
1 person $365.00 + tax for the week
1 Queen Bed - Same rate

The above includes free transportation to and from the airport ($25.00 each way in a taxi), free breakfast, transportation to the Family History Center Library - leaves twice each morning and returns twice each afternoon/evening.

If you cannot go for a week, you can make reservations for the days you wish to stay (if staying only a few days, the price may be more per day).

Members are responsible for their own airline reservations.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Family History Library is the largest genealogical library in the world. With records from every Country (has an International Floor), State and County. The Library is open Monday thru Saturday. The hours are: Monday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. & Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.

If you contact the hotel directly, please let Janet know so she can keep track of how many rooms have been booked.

In addition to these trips, Janet will plan a "fifth Tuesday outing". These take place in months where a fifth Tuesday occurs.

The remaining fifth Tuesdays in 2012 are May 29, July 31 and October 30. Should you have a suggestion for one of these outings, please let Janet know. It has been suggested that we visit the Kentucky Military Museum in Frankfort on one of these dates. Kentucky Military Records are being moved back to the Museum in March (they’re currently at the History Center).
