Counties
(and a few others, here and there)
This publication is a cross reference, or locator, to facilitate the finding of records of the various cemeteries and churches in Mercer and surrounding counties, plus a few other locations that researchers have contributed. It is hoped that a person can take this reference and go to the volume and page number for a listing of the various cemeteries or churches -- and make his or her research a little easier.
The material for this reference volume were taken from several publications including cemetery records that were compiled by various groups or authors. The book and page number indicates the volume this information can be found in. The abbreviations under the book and page number column refers to the publications (click on the abbreviation to see the publication name in the bottom frame), all of which are in the library of the Harrodsburg Historical Society:
In cases where the same information is published in separate publications, the list includes all publications and page numbers. It will be found that some information for the same
cemeteries recorded at different times by different people may contain more or less information -- some stones available at the first recording may be no longer there at the later recording.
Many references are made in old obituaries from the newspapers to churches and cemeteries that no longer exist. The research involved in compiling this publication also serves
as the basis for an ongoing project of gathering information on the churches of Mercer and surrounding counties and their histories. This work will include present day churches and many, including photographs whenever available, that no longer exist.
