Checked my paperwork and found it lists the children of James McMURTRY and Polly McKEE as Lydia Todd McMurtry, John McMURTRY and another daughter named Mary who was an invalid, died single and lived in Rio, Knox County, Illinois. I have a John Campton born in OH. He had a wife Ann Eliza also born in OH. They had 3 girls, Lillie B., Maude, and Mary E.(b. 1879) born in OH before homesteading in Northern MN. Mary E. "Molly" Campton Thoms was my great grandmother. Three more children were born in MN before Ann Eliza died in 1888. I wonder if this John Campton might be a descendent of your John Campton?

My George Bast was also in Mercer County from 1806 to 1821. He had a tinsmith and coppersmith store in Danville, Shelbyville and Lexington. He married Emily Curtner in Mercer in 1821 and moved to MO. He was a native of Maryland. There were other Basts from PA and MD in the county also. Let me know if we seem to connect.

Loamie French married Sam N.Wheat in Mercer County May 3, 1905. The marriage bond was signed by W. E. French. The witnesses were William French and Manda French. Mary Wheat, believed to have been the only child of Sam and Loamie, was married to Herman E. Baker and living in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio in the 1920s. I am seeking to correspond with anyone who knows of these individuals or their relatives. Sam was brother to my grandfather. I have lots of information on the Wheats to share.

I am researching the Magoffin family. I was recently sleuthing the Mercer County, Kentucky and Pennsylvania clans. The only William in the Magoffin line from the clan of Tullylish, County Down, Ireland, was the son of James Magoffin (1798-1879). James came to the USA in 1821 with his parents. He was a physician. He stayed in Mercer, PA, married Grace Elizabeth Mitcheltree, and was a prominent MD and citizen. He had 5 sons and 5 daughters. Although William James Magoffin is listed first and born about 1829, I have no other information on him. The age would be about right. The father of the James mentioned above, moved to Kentucky to be nearer his twin brother, Beriah Magoffin, father of the Civil War governor. This grandfather of William, also named James Magoffin, lived in the Lexington, KY, area. They were apparently wealthy and known for generosity. Mercer Co. I can't help you out much, I knew nothing about my Great Grandmother Spencer except that her family came from Oklahoma. She was also part Indian.

The Brooks that I'm looking for were in the Jefferson County [Louisville] area 1840-1860. Ann Maria's oldest son Alonzo Morgan Spencer was born near Louisville,1849.It has been told that he had seven brothers and after the death of his father he was raised in the Pleasant Hill Shaker Community in Harrodsburg. I cannot find his brothers or any record in the Shaker records. It remains a mystery. If you have access to any Spencer history of that era check to see if you can find a clue to Alonzo.
