Roger, I found your posting while looking for the Newtons for someone else. She has James Newton born Sep 9 1795 in Mercer Co. KY and died Jul 16 1851 in Dubois Co, Birdseye, IN. He married Margaret Peggy King ca 1815 - the daughter of Henry King and Louisa Killian. Margt was born 1796 in TN and died aft 1857 in Dubois Co. IN. They supposedly had 14 children. According to local history, "The first purchase of land made in Jefferson township bears day of August 5, 1834, when James Newton bought the southeast quarter of the northwest quarter of section one, township three south, range three west. This land is on the Anderson creek, and nearly two miles south of Birdseye. James sold goods near Birdseye and traded in venison, wild turkeys and skins of various wild animals, such as deer, coons, etc. His son Peter bought his farm of 160 acres." She has only a daughter listed for James and Margaret: Martha Newton b. 1828, Birdseye, IN - married John Waddle Aug 7, 1851 in Birdseye. I would like to know what you can tell me about the elder Peter and his wife. Thanks. Shirley

I am afraid I can't help you with the Latimers, but I am curious about the Stone/Campbell connection mentioned in your Bible record. I have a William Stone married to a Sophia Alexander in Harrodsburg, KY (1827). They moved to Audrain Co., MO, possibly via Indiana, and were in MO in 1850. WIlliam's parents are listed as Thomas Stone and Mary Ann Campbell, but I have no other information on them. William was born 1804, Possibly in Green Co., KY. William's son Thomas was born in Nicholas Co., KY and his wife was listed as Keziah Francis Cardwell of Mercer Co. Do your record shed any light on the Stone/Campbell connection? Would appreciate hearing from you if you could shed any light on the subject. Thanks.

MURPHY Search
Surnames: CARTER, FAIN, HAGER, LEWIS, MURPHY, STINNETT, WALKER#02672
Jack Murphy <murph@ticnet.com> Sat, 09 Dec 2000
Looking for parents, relatives, and/or siblings for my Great Great Great Grandfather, John MURPHY who may migrated from Mercer County over to Jessamine County. In Jessamine County, he married Susannah STINNETT 15 Aug 1821. Here's the info I have:

Great Great Great Grandfather
Name: John Murphy
Birthdate: Unknown
Place: Unknown
Died: ABT 1848 (Last Will / Testament marked 22 Feb 1848)
Place: Jessamine County Kentucky
Spouse(s): Susannah STINNETT b. ABT 1804
Children: Nancy Jane b. 1832 m. Dudley Hager 1 Aug 1850; Mary Ann "Polly" m. William WALKER b. 18 Jul 1832 d. 23 Nov 1908. Note: Mary Ann's birthdate is questionable. Accordinng to the 1850 census, she was 13 years or b. ABT 1837. The 1880 census lists her age as 48 or b. ABT 1832. Her marriage application contains sworn statements of James MURPHY (her brother) that she was 21 years of age (or b. 1833). Her tombstone in Mose Reynolds Cemetery in Jessamine County claims Mary Ann b. 15 Jul 1829 d. 24 Dec 1929 (she actually died 20 Dec 1929); James b. 1834 d. Jan 1921; Hardin b. 1840 m. 13 Feb 1857 to Lucinda MASSA; William b. 1842 d. 12 Mar 1921 m. 14 Oct 1860 to Elizabeth WALKER b. 16 Dec 1834 d. 27 Mar 1915; Fanny b. 26 Jan 1843 d. 19 Sep 1926 m. Madison SHORT; Sally b. 1844 m. 7 Aug 1860 to Pleasant FAIN b. ABT 1820; Elizabeth b. 1846; John b. ABT 1849 m. Julia Ann WALKER b. 1849
Parents: Unknown
Comments: Searching MURPHY, HAGER, STINNETT, WALKER, FAIN, SHORT, MASSA (may be listed also as MASSEY)

I have found that living next door to John MURPHY and Susannah STINNETT were Lindsey MURPHY and his wife Susan STINNETT (Susannah's niece). Lindsey b. ABT 1811 d. 27 Dec 1918 and Susan b. 1 Sep 1824 d. 7 Aug 1900 were married 29 Dec 1847. They are buried in the COMLEY/STINNETT cemetery in Jessamine County. I believe Lindsey is "probably" John MURPHY's brother, but I'm unable to prove it. Also living on the other side of John and Susannah MURPHY were Susannah's brother (King Alexander STINNETT) and his wife. And what is strange is that King Alexander took in my GG Grandfather John (son of John and Susannah) for a period of time. It may have been that John just died and King Alexander took the son for a while. At least John MURPHY (b. ABT 1849) is listed as living with King Alexander in the 1850 census and it lists his age as 1 year old.

I have been trying to untangle my League family for ever but haven't had a lot of luck.

My Dad who is still living has always told me that we were related to the Trisler families from Mercer County but I haven't worked on that line yet. I also saw the Richard League living with the Trislers.

I don't know if he was a brother to my George or who he was.

My League family who were from Mercer County are as follows.

My grandfather was William Franklin League who preferred to be called Willie Frank League. He married Rose Etta Walls aka Etta Walls.

Willie Frank was the son of John Thomas League and Lucinda Angeline Humfleet League.

John Thomas League was the son of George League and Elizabeth Lyons League.

George had sons William, James Granville, Charles,Henry,Richard, and Alexander. (this is off the top of my head so I don't have dates.)

My father always has said that we were related to the TRISLERS,

I have not tried to come in the back door so to speak while tracing my line. I have worked from what I know, ie, my grandparents, great grandparents, etc.

I have not actively worked on my genalogy for the past two or three years. My husband has been ill and I can't devote the time to research that I would like.

In fact this is the first time in months that I have returned to the Mercer County list.

Joyce

Wesley D Parrott <parrott@theramp.net> Tue, 19 Dec 2000
Searching your Mercer Co. Ky Query Forum for info leading to location of final resting places of Jefferson Thomas PARROTT and his wife Mary Frances MARDIS PARROTT. Last known residence was Taylor County, KY in the Saloma - Willowtown area in the 1880's. These are my paternal great grandparents. The home they lived in then is said to be in the MCFARLAND family since 1900. It is just off Graham road about one mile south of Good Hope Baptist Church. Jefferson Thomas PARROTT was in some legal dispute over the property on which he was living, I believe a 100 acre tract, but am not certain. The only reference we have regarding he or his wife is an obituary in the Lebanon paper that said "today, Mrs. Jeff PARROTT passed away."
