I was glad to see your posting on the Mercer Co. board. Do you have any information on the two Stocker brothers, Hayes and Elley Asa Stocker? These brothers married sisters.

Hayes Stocker m. Annette Sanders - 1/9/1896 Madison Co.
Elley Asa Stocker m. Nancy Barlow Sanders - 9/3/1903 Jessamine Co.

These two Sanders girls were sisters to my g-gmother.

When you have seen one Kentucky Stocker, you have seen them all!

Started with Bazil Stoker, who was in Lincoln, Mercer, Bourbon, or Fayette by 177?. Think he might have come in with the "Army" from Virginia.

His brood scattered in all directions, in the counties mentioned above, plus Clark, Fleming and Madison.
Hayes and Elley are from Madison. The Sanders girls, from Jessamine.

I have much more on the Stocker's if you are interested.

I found marriage record data submitted by Gail A. Shearin
that Henry Shearin married a Susan Harper in Mercer County
Dec. 9, 1836. Henry's brother, John, was my great great
grandfather, so Susan would be my great great aunt by
marriage. I'm trying to find out about Levin Merriet
Shearin, son of Henry and Susan. He died in the Confederate
Soldier's Home in PeeWee Valley, KY. I have info that Levin
Merriet's daughter, Sue, married a Carter. Would this be
your family? I've been trying to conduct a military
genealogy of the sons of Henry and Susan. Contact me at my
email address if you like.

I've read George W. Ranck's book, "The Travelling Church" about the expedition of Lewis Craig and Capt. William Ellis from Spotsylvania, Virginia to what is now Garrard and Mercer County, Kentucky. He mentions there were several Ellis families in the party. Can anyone help me with the names of these Ellis family members, where they settled, family relationships, etc.? Was John Ellis of Garrard County (mentioned in Forrest Calico's history) part of this expedition?

Information / Help
Surnames: DUGUAY#01959
Michael P Walton <mikewalton1@compuserve.com> Tue, 15 Feb 2000
My GreatGrand Father's Enlistment Papers list him (Alexander Duguay) as enlisting on Nov 2 1862 in Columbus Kentucky. However, looking on todays map of kentucky, there are two Columbus Kentucky. One located on the east and one on the west side of Kentucky.

His enlistement papers list his unit as either the 15th or 18th Reg Infantry. (It is hard to tell which).

Can anyone help me to figure out which unit and which Columbus Kentucky I should be looking into?

Thank you

Bottom of Kentucky

Ruth,

I have just begun research of the BOTTOM family in Washington, Boyle, and Mercer counties of Kentucky.

The names you mention are not known to me, but I suspect they are related to my line. My ancestor was Mary E. Bottom whose father appears to have been Calvin Wallace Bottom. This family lived in Washington County very near Perryville which is in Boyle County which adjoins Mercer in the 1800s.

You may be aware that Boyle County was formed from Mercer circa 1842. These folks lived in the general area of where the three counties join.

Dee Godkin has a Bottoms website at www.bottoms.org which she says includes this line, but the address she has given doesn't work for me nor do links I have found ... Have you contact with this website?

Jack

BOTTOM Family of Ky
Surnames: BOTTOM#01962
Ruth Antle <rinceton@duo-county.com> Fri, 18 Feb 2000
<< Previous in Thread   Response >>
Dee Godkin has already done lots of research about the BOTTOM family of Ky. Our line came to Boyle, Mercer, and Washington as well as Lincoln very early. My own ggg grandfather, Martin came to Perryville in 1800 from Va. His father was Micajah. I lost out on relatives in Ky because my gg grandfather, Abner Wilkerson BOTTOM moved to Indiana in 1861, thus losing contact with kin left behind in Ky and of course the Civil War prevented any futher contact. My grandfather, Charles was born in Boyle Co . My father was born in In as was I. I am trying to find descendents of the early Bottom family who may still live in the above named counties.. I realize that they may not be aware of my existence. But A.W. had brothers and sisters who stayed in Ky and many of their families probably still live in Boyle Co. will contact you email abt Bottom's site.
