Austin Moore

In the 1810 Mercer County Census there is listed an Austin Moore. In the 1820 Hopkins County, Ky census there is an Austin Moore, my ancestor. I am trying to determine whether these two Austins might be the same. The Austin in Hopkins County had a wife named Nancy -- surname unknown. In a list of Mercer County Marriages I find an Austin Moore who married a Nancy Stells on January 20, 1818 and I am wondering whether this could have been a second marriage for my Austin, who is believed to have been born in North Carolina and some of his children were born in North Carolina. In the marriage records there is also an Austin Moore who married a Patsey Goolman on July 20, 1815. Any information on this man (or these men, as the case might be) would be greatly appreciated. My Austin Moore moved to Christian County sometime around 1816-18 - the part of Christian County that was included in Hopkins County by 1820.

I’m searching for the ancestors of my gggrandparents: James Marion Lyons (b. 6/13/1849 in Salvisa, Mercer, KY and d. 3/21/1913, buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Jamestown, Boone, IN) m. 8/5/1885 Sammye G. Black (b. 1/9/1863 in , Tremble, KY and d. 12/10/1924 in Indianapolis, Marion, IN and buried in Jamestown, Boone, IN). They had two children 1. Sarah Lola Lyons (b. 4/26/1887 in Lizton, Hendricks, IN and d. 4/11/1955 in Pittsboro, Hendricks, IN) m. 11/11/1914 in Indianapolis, Marion, IN, Robert Frank Wilson. 2. My grandfather was born in Mercer Co. to Charles and Sarah(Sara?) Lyons in 1895. I was told Charles was an Indian and had a teepee in the backyard in which he slept. I know my aunt went back as far as 1650's. Alot of which lived in Mercer Co. for years and some still do. I don't know if we connect or not but if you find them in your lineage please let me know.

The Darlands were origionally Dorlands who came with the Low Dutch to Kentucky about 1780-1783. The origionated in Kings Co, NY and Somerset Co, NJ. John Dorland and his wife Catharine Van Liew arrived in Jefferson Co in 170 with their children: Lambert, Garret, John, Margarita, Cathaina, Abraham and Isaac. John was killed in 1780 and Catharine married William Lucas in 1786. Lambert, Abraham and Isaac moved to Bourbon Co. about 1790. Then Abraham and Isaac lived in that section of the county that became Nicholas, with Isaac moving to Preble Co Ohio. Lambert moved to Mercer Co KY about 1800 and he and his wife had children: John who married Partheny Betheny and remained in Mercer Co; Isaac who married Alsey Reynolds and along with brother Abraham and wife Rebecca Reynods moved to Parke Co, IN; Garret who married Edna Daniels and remained in Mercer appearing in the 1880 Census with daughter Kitty; Catharine who married Thomas Hawkins. Lambert lived on Gilberts creek in the part of Mercer that became Anderson and then in 1830 moved to Parke Co IN. John's brother Garret Dorland also moved to Mercer Co about 1790 and had a son Garret Ward Dorland who lived in Mercer through 1850 0r so. The name Dorland was changed in Kentucky to Darland, Derlin, Durln and Darling. However Darland is the spelling that most of the descendants use. Judy

In my earlier Mercer County post it said that Walter's father was Woodford, but I cannot connect him to any of these names that you gave me. Do you know? I do not have anymore information on this but I would suggest that you check out the census for both names. It is more than possible that a parent remarried. Have you checked out the volunteers for Mercer Co. to see what Darland information that they might have for this time period. Also try www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~uslookup/ These are volunteers who check the census for different parts of the country. I would be interested in finding out just what you discover. did this family remain in mercer Co, or did they move elsewhere and if so where did they go? Judy

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. My Darlands did stay in Mercer Co. That is what I can find states they lived in Mercer Co. After the marriage of my G grandmother I don't know what happened to all of the family. Slowly but surely I will get there!

Hi Debbie, I have a copy of the marriage certificate of Geo A Cozine and Mary Craig dated 15 May? 1851 in Mercer County, KY. F. N. Gritton signed as surety on the bond. I believe Geo is the son of George E COZINE and Charity BANTA also of Mercer County. Does anyone have a marriage certificate for them?

Have been searching twenty years for surname of Mary, wife of Joseph Kelley. Joseph was born 1789 in VA (probably Culpeper Co), son of William and Elizabeth (Poulter) Kelley. Family was in Mercer Co. by abt. 1800. Joseph served in War of 1812 with Capt. Robert B. McAfes's Compamy. commanded by Col.Robert M. Johnson. Joseph and Mary were in IN by 1836. Mary was born in KY abt. 1800, according to census records. Joseph and Mary's first child, Benjamin Roten Kelley, was born 1817 in Mercer Co. Any help apprecidated.

This is going to be a repeat of my message which was posted to the KYMERCER-L mailing list. My sincere apologies for any duplication. I've just transcribed John Ed's death certificate for the Mercer Co. Genealogy page. The information is as follows: Certificate #12-10951 John Ed Johnson b.ca. 1852 in Lincoln Co., Ky (no date of birth given, just "age 60") d. 28 Apr 1912 in Mercer Co., Ky cause: paralysis (most likely a stroke) father: John Johnson b. Lincoln Co., Ky mother: unknown Informant: J. Warren Curd of Burgin, Ky buried: 29 Apr 1912 Shawnee Run Church undertaker: H.D. Williams You could check the Lincoln County marriages for a marriage for John Johnson, sometime before 1852 (the appx. year of John Ed's birth). You might find his mother's name that way. (and it's Lincoln County, since that's where John Ed is said to be born). Another good resource is to visit the "books" page (click on the link below) for Mercer Co. Jim Miller has published the obits from local papers in CD format, and now that you have a death date, perhaps his obit will have more information on his mother. You could also write to Shawnee Run Cemetery, and see what they have in their records. Church and Cemetery Locator Finally, you might try tracking down the records of the undertaker. Hi: PattyAnn was probably correct as the nick name for Martha was Patty. I have seen this time and again, so she was called PattyAnn in the will but her name was Martha Ann, both would have been correct.
