Purdums Surnames: BELL, DENNIS, HENDERSON, HUDSON, PURDUM, RICE #02127 Barb <doll@axom.com> Mon, 08 May 2000 << Previous in Thread Hello, I have written to Jan on the Mason Co., Kentucky, Purdums. I can reiterate that information here in another message. An interesting point here is the mention of McKinney with Purdum. My g grandfather, Jonah Purdum, of Highland County, Ohio, was living with a JAMES McKINNEY and his wife in the Census, c. 1850. I had no idea why a Purdum and his wife and a McKinney family were living in the same household. Does this ring any bells?
I, too, have been looking into the possibility that the Montgomery Co., MD, Purdum family is connected to the Mercer Co., KY family of Purdom.
Would anyone know if Mary Elvira "Polly" McKinney Purdom had a brother named James?

Vanarsdalls in Mercer County Surnames: VANARSDALL #02155 Katie Gudgel <kab@aml.arizona.edu> Fri, 19 May 2000 Response >> Amy and Scott The Vanarsdall Family in Mercer County is a side branch of mine. Since it is not my primary line, I haven't verified much of the information below. Most of it came from came from hand-written documents by Luna Estelle Drake (b. February 20, 1871 in Franklin Township, Johnson County, Indiana, d. November 03, 1938 in Lamar, Barton County, Missouri). The Catharine Whiteneck, listed below, was Luna's grandaunt.
Descendants of Cornelius A. Banta Vanarsdall, Sr.
1 Cornelius A. Banta VANARSDALL, Sr.
.. +Mary BREWER m: January 19, 1797 in Mercer County, Kentucky
........2 Simon VANARSDALL b: December 22, 1799 in Whitelane, Mercer County, Kentucky d: November 14, 1882 in Franklin, Indiana
............+Catharine WHITENECK b: June 11, 1803 in Mercer County, Kentucky m: October 04, 1821 in Mercer County, Kentucky d: August 14, 1875 in Franklin Township, Indiana
...................3 Cornelius A. Banta VANARSDALL, 2nd b: October 03, 1823 in Mercer County, Kentucky
.............................4 William D. VANARSDALLI also have a book "Making A Neighborhood" which contains information on the Shiloh Church community in Johnson County, Indiana which was settled primarily by families from Mercer County. It mentions the Vanarsdall Family, but the only individual Vanarsdall mentioned is Bennetta Vanarsdall who joined the Shiloh Church by Ex. on March 24, 1858. She was dismissed on Sept. 24, 1866 to go to Bethany. But these families would have left Mercer County before your husband's ggrandparents were born. So you would probably be tied in through Simon or earlier.
The other place I would look is at the "Biographical Essays about the Vanardale Families" (http://www.macatawa.org/~brianter/VanBiographies.html). Many Vanarsdall individuals in Mercer County are mentioned.
Good Luck
