Wish I *could* help you in your quest, but I haven't followed the Van Nuys family in NY or NJ after 1793 when our ancestors left and settled in Harrodsburg, KY,
where my hubby was born 140 years later.

Have you tried the Dutch-Colonies Archives?

http://searches2.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl

In the box titled:
"Name of List" type in: Dutch-Colonies
(be sure to include the hyphen).

Good luck in your search.

Where did you get the info about Geo.League's parents?

My Geo. League was married to Elizabeth Lyons.

They had children, William, Charles, John Thomas, Susan, Mary Jane, and James Granville, and Richard, and Samuel.

I know that their son John Thomas League married Lucinda Angeline Humfleet.

MAry Jane married Henry Sanders and they lived near Atoka.

John Thomas League died around the age of 34 with pneumonia leaving Lucinda Angeline with 5 children to raise.

My grandfather, Willie Frank League was about 12.

He married Etta Walls and they had 8 children. John Will, Benjamin Granville, Addie Marie, Paul German, Earl Foster,Ralph Lewis,Susan Angeline, and Rosetta.

My father is John Will. There were 6 of us kids. I am second in line after my brother John Thomas, I have a brother Richard Everett, a sister Phyllis Ann, a sister Nancy Elizabeth, and a brother Rodger Kelvin.

Just a brief outline of my family.

Are we working on the same line?

I got the information from Roots. I do not know if I am correct about the information, but I can almost guarantee it is the same family. I have found that the men's names tend to repeat. Most of the men are either John, William, George, or Richard. Every generation up until recently, has had a John. I do have relatives from Mercer county who moved to Council Bluffs.

I was hoping to learn something about the Chinn surname, too. My 2nd ggf Abram Armstrong married Emily/Emma Deer in 1837 and lived in Mercer Co, KY. A witness at the wedding was a Lester Chinn Armstrong. It didn't say what relationship he was. I've been looking for Abram's parents/siblings for at least 6 years.

Thank you both, Christy and Pam, for clarifying for me the county where this marriage took place. I was initially surprised to find a Mercer County reference, because all of my searching so far has taken me to Lincoln, Boyle, Adair, Marion, Casey, and finally Metcalfe Counties. Without your postings I would have gone around in circles in the wrong county. Thank you again! Sandy Goode

In searching the three volumn set of books published by the Harrodsburg Historical Society regarding burials in Spring Hill Cemetery, Mercer County, during the period of 1860 - 1994, I cannot find any listing for the surname of Estes. However I did locate some information on Lula Prewitt which may be of some help to you.

The publication shows the name of Lula Owens Prewitt, born in Nevada, Ky., and died at the age of 83 in Harrodsburg. The date of death is given as 11-26-1963. She is buried in Section X, Lot 9 E 1/2, Grave 9. She is listed as having been the wife of Dee Prewitt. The lot that she is buried in was owned by Jerry Owens.

Also listed is the name od D. Prewitt, born in Mercer County on 12-22-1872, and died in Lexington, Ky., on 06-22-1940. He is buried in the same section and lot as Lula but in grave 8. The book states that he was the son of Sidney Prewitt and Ellen Cox, and that he was the husband of Lula Prewitt.

I hope that the information shown above will be of some small help to you.
