Homepage: Great-Great Grandmother's maiden name
    Response >>
My Great-Great Grandfather, Franklin Young married one Amanda M. Wheeler, (dob,3/26/1826) in 7/3/1843 in Harrodsbury, Ky bore to that marriage in 12/5/1846 was my great-grandfather, Harvey T. Young. Apparently Franklin died soon afterwards(?). My great-great-grandmother, Amanda, then 22 remarried one Shelton Ransdell, (DOB 6/19/1809), a widower with about 9 offspring, poor lady!! in 2/17/1848. I am looking for information on Franklin Young's parents and any brothers and sisters; information on Amanda M. Wheeler's parents; and information regarding whether Shelton Ransdell and Amanda had any children from their marriage, and possibly their names. Not asking for much huh!, but things to happen.

I am a 4th generation Bennett H. Young, and somewhere that name keeps croppin up in my family. Any connections would be appreciated. I am familiar with the Bennett H. Young that rode with Morgon's Raiders (in the north they called them bandits) during the Civil War. I am sure we are related somehow, possibly through this Franklin Young.

Roger Reid <sonnyreid@juno.com> Tue, 13 Feb 2001

The l850 Mercer County census lists a John Reed in the family of Thomas and Elizabeth Reed. His age is listed as 6, which would mean he was born in 1844. This could be the answer to your search. I have reason to believe that this John Reed was a brother of my ancestor, William. Would you have any knowledge of John's brothers or sisters?

In 1886 Nannie was a boarder at the home of Luther ABNEY in Louisville at 533 E. Kentucky Street. In the 1890's Luther was across the river in New Albany IN. He was appointed guardian for Nannie when she was admitted to a hospital in Indianapolis until her death in 1903. I don't know of a blood or marriage relationship between the TRUE and CREAGH families and the ABNEYs. Do you know of Luther ABNEY? Thank you.

Hi!
My husband is a descendent of Allen E. Jones. I too have been looking for more information about Isaac Jones. Allen E. Jones married Elizabeth Campbell (daughter of Josiah Campbell and Suzanne Mitchell). Allen had two brothers (maybe half brothers) and one sister; Martin who married Mary E. Campbell, James who married Francis Campbell and Nancy who maried John Campbell. I have many descendents on my tree obtained from various researchers. After Martin was killed his wife Mary married a Phillip Shuck etc.
Let me know if I can help or if you have any more info on Isaac Jones. The Jones family lived in Mercer Co., Ky, then moved to Henricks Co., Indiana, then some went to Davis Co., Iowa.

Sorry for the double post to the kymercer mailing list. I originally just hit "reply" but realized this should probably be posted on the message boards too.

Susan:

Many of the Dutch from Mercer County, Kentucky moved on to Johnson County, Indiana. I have a history of one of the
churches in Johnson Co. (written in 1887). There are several "Vannuys" individuals who are
listed in this book. One part says:

The year following David Demaree's advent, Isaac Vannuys, another Kentuckian, whose ancestors originally, as is supposed,
came from the village of Nuys, in Groningen, Holland, to New Amsterdam and thence to
the West with the New Jersey colonists and who had recently married Elizabeth Johnson, found a home amid the Shiloh woods.

So you might look near Groningen and see what towns are/were named to see if any are close matches to "Nuys".

Katie

Hi Bennett,

Your postings mentioning Youngs is *most* intriguing.
And some of the other surnames and given names you mention add fuel.

Cynthia Ann YOUNG (1825-1894)and Abram TERHUNE (1819-1901)
were married Oct 9/12, 1843 in Mercer Co., KY. They were
my hubby's great grandparents.

They had the following children (all TERHUNEs):
Ann Eliza m. Garret S. Terhune (her cousin)
Arrobelle m. Wm. B. Terhune (her distant cousin)
Julie d. young
Thomas m. Brenda CLOYD
Henry
HARVEY m. Mattie L. {unknown)
William d. young
Katie m. Jeff ROBARD(S)
*ROBERT BREWER m. ANGELINA "Anna" DEAN
Eddie

*Robert and Angelina (DEAN) TERHUNE were my hubby's
grandparents.

Angelina DEAN's siblings married into the RANSDALL and MOORE families.
Later DEANs married into the WHEELER families.

I am seeking the parents of Cynthia YOUNG. I can trace
Abram Terhune's lineage back to the early 1600s. If you
see any possible connections in the info above, I would be
delighted to compare notes.
