Do you have a Lucy Ellen JONES, born 1827 in Mercer Co, Kentucky? Or her brother James H. (Harvey?) JONES, also born in Kentucky? Lucy Ellen married 25 December 1851 in Pettis Co, Missouri. She was traveling home from visiting relatives in Mercer Co, KY when she met John Carver NICHOLS, son of Nathan NICHOLS and his wife, Cassandra MATHERLY (all, also from Mercer County). They were married just after leaving the boat. James H. JONES is on the 1850 census in Johnson Co, Missouri with a wife, Cassy??? and Lucy. Shortly before Lucy Ellen died her brother, "Mr. JONES", came to visit her. He lived in Grandview, Missouri at that time, about 1913. Can you help with this family?

We have much more information on this family that we would like to share. We believe (but cannot prove) that Joel may have sympathetic to the rebels during the Civil War. His relatives were all Union men. Perhaps that is why we can find no records of him inside the family.

A Wm. PATTERSON, husband of Sally NICHOLS, is in the will of her father, William NICHOLS. This William could have possibly been born about 1797. Could he be your William? The will was the Mercer Co, Kentucky courthouse years ago. I have a copy.

On her pension affadavit she stated that she had known and grown up with the NICHOLS family. Does anyone have any knowledge of a SLIGAR family in the county of Mercer? I have been unable to find any information about that surname.

He was the s/o Thomas Bottom b 1708 Henrico Co., VA and Rebecca Turner, m c 1739, and d 1789 Henrico Co.
