MOORE, Ray 1913-1928
Surnames: MOORE#00152
PC Mon, 20 Jul 1998
The following obit provided by Birchell Coslow, Denver, Co.:

From the Harrodsburg Herald, Fri. Sept 21, 1928:
Ray Moore, fifteen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hansford Moore, died at the A. D. Price Memorial Hospital Tuesday night about 11 o'clock from loss of blood and shock due to an accident in which his leg was almost severed just above the knee.

The lad with his twelve year-old brother, William, had gone hunting on their father's farm on the Bruner's Chapel road, near Cornishville. About five o'clock in the afternoon the father heard a shot and screams, and on arriving at the scene found the older boy seriously injured and the younger one so excited and distressed that he could hardly tell how the accident happened.

It seems he had set his gun on the ground leaning against a fence, and the weapon slipped and fell, the hammer striking a rock and it was discharged. The full force of the load struck his older brother just above the knee. Both bones were shattered and the flesh badly torn. Dr. F. J. Nooe, of Cornishville, was summoned and checked the flow of blood and hastened the boy by ambulance to the A. D. Price Memorial Hospital, but it was found he was too weak to have the leg amputated, which at first was thought might save his life.

His funeral was held yesterday morning at the Baptist church at Battle by the Rev. C. L. Hargrove. Burial was in the cemetery there. The stricken family have the sympathy of the entire community especially the younger brother whose grief is pathetic. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hansford Moore, four sisters, Mrs. Earl Votaw, Mrs. Will Baker, Mrs. Oscar Warner, Mrs. Herbert Sallee, and one brother, William Moore.
