Helen,

Hmmmmm...an Interesting Development
The reason I had BOLTON listed was becuase I have an RLDS Church Ancestry chart showing that Rebecca BOLTON married a William CLAUNCH on 19 June 1798. This William and Rebecca were the parents of Lucinda CLAUNCH who is my gggrandmother. The record shows Rebecca BOLTON as the daughter of Peter BOLTON and Rebecca COBB and Peter BOLTON as the son of William BOLTON and Rachel RASKELL.

I have found inconsistencies in the RLDS records (I'm new to them and not sure how accurate most of them are). It is very possible that the researcher who filed the information took it only from the second entry of the double-entered information and Rebecca was indeed a BOTTOM not a Bolton. Out of curiosity, what source do you have that shows this Rebecca as a daughter of John Bottom. This is real interest to me as these folks are in my direct ancestry line and I'd like to correct any possible errors. The marriage dates appear the same--don't suppose it's possible there were two William Claunches who married Rebeccas on the same day?

Another question I get from this information is: Was the William Claunch that married Rebecca and the William Claunch who married Mary Ann Phillips the same William Claunch--I know this is probably impossible to find out and unlikely to boot.

Thanks for the info. It appears we could have a connection with Rebecca Bottom and your Cranes. Are you willing to share info on the Cranes and Bottoms?

Thanks again, Kim

I can help out here (I have John and Rebecca in my database, and plenty of Claunch's, but not William. They're relatives, though .... not ancestors):

Four daughters: REBECCA, Elizabeth, Nancy, Sally

Hope this helps. The URL of my database is below, but I don't know how much you'll find there. Best of Luck to you.

William Maddox married Margaret Riley 16 March 1801 in Fauquier Co., VA. They family eventually settled in Mercer Co.KY, along with other members of the Riley family.

Catherine Riley (aunt of Margaret Riley) married Adam Darnell about 1780 in Fauquier Co., VA. This family also came to KY and settled in Washington Co., near the Mercer Co.line. The families may have travelled together and were in Lincoln Co. KY, before coming to Mercer.

Nancy Maddox, daugher of William and Magaret Riley Maddox, married Valentine Holt 2 May 1829 in Mercer Co.

Am looking for any information on ancestors or descendants of these four families. Thank you. Claudia Holt Fischer

Kim,

It is possible that William Claunch married twice,
but I don't know that he did. If he was 21 in 1798,
he would have been in his fifties in 1831, so its possible.
There is a book called, "Descendants of John G. Grain, Boyle County, Kentucky"
Authors and Compilers Luther N. Crain Sr. and Mary Alice Stinson Crain
Revised 1986
It is available from:
Luther Crane, Jr.
1617 Cooper
Saginaw, Michigan 48602
This large book is under $10.00 post paid.
It contains most of what I know about the Crain/Crane, Bottom, Gray ffamilies.

You will find inaccuracies everywhere in genealogy. Every piece of information is the memory of someone recorded in one fashion or another. Sometimes our memories don't get recorded for many many years after an event has occured.
Anything done by human beings is subject to error and we all make mistakes. That's the fun part of genealogy sometimes, we get to prove it or disprove it, even though it drives us up the wall sometimes.

I want to personally thank all of you who've stopped by to drop off a marriage or two on the marriage page, and encourage you to continue to do so.

The page had grown to the point where it's extremely slow to load (over 1,300 marriages submitted!), so I've enhanced it to display only those marriages for the surname of your choice (both brides and grooms having that surname are displayed).

This has greatly speeded up the loading of the page, and I couldn't be happier with it. I hope you find it helpful, and I hope you'll continue to add your data to the page.

Check it out!!! The URL is linked below.

4th Great Grandfather, James COBURN was supposedly born in North Carolina.

He died 1793 in Mercer County, KY His probate records indicate he left a 2nd wife, Susannah, and eight (8) orphaned children - Margaret, Mary, Ann, Sarah*, Samuel, Elizabeth, James, and Jenny.

Supposed first wife and mother of my 3rd great-grandmother (Sarah [COBURN] HACKLEY) was Mary Frances [WISHART] - who died before 1790. Where/When? Is anyone researching this family? I would like to know more about all of them and will be glad to exchange what information I have.

Robert Cornelius Wilham (1823-1911)was the grandson of William "Billy" Wilham who was born before 1765 according to the 1810 & 1820 census. His son Isaac Wilham (1802-1890),an ordained minister of the Christian Church, in one of the later census states his father was born in Germany. William "Billy" Wilham was a gunsmith and at least one of these guns remain in the hands of descendants in Casey Co., Ky. today. Martha Skinner married William "Billy" Wilham in Mercer Co. in Feb of 1796. She was born between 1766 & 1784 from the same census. There is a possibility that she was a widow, but I am not sure. Robert Cornelius Wilham (above), probably named for his uncle of the same name, was the son of Thomas Wilham & Polly Redford who married in Mercer Co., Ky . 16 Oct 1816. Billy Wilham stated the bride was of age. In 1850 Thomas gave his age as 55 but in 1860 his age was 59. Polly Redford Wilham died after 1850 but before Apr 1853 when Thomas married a 2nd time. Polly's age in 1850 was 60.

Good Luck, Anne
