DEATH: William Porter, the seven year old son of George Porter, who resides in the West End, met a horrible death last week while playing around a mule. The animal became frightened and began kicking viciously, striking the child on the head, tearing away a greater portion of his skull. The parents are grief stricken and have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.

DEATH: Mr. Fred Bradshaw, aged 24 years, died at the home of his father, Mr. John Bradshaw, near Burgin, Friday morning he had gone into the yard and his father hearing him make a noise went to where he was and the son remarked: "I'm done." He was tenderly carried into the house and died in a few minutes. After funeral services by Rev. William Houchins the remains were interred at Shawnee Run.

HARRODSBURG - Hansford Lewis ``Papa'' Watts, 77, of Campbell Drive, died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 1, 1921, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Strouther and Gertrude Maddox Watts. He was a retired 30-year employee of Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a deacon and trustee of Magnolia Street Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Harlow Watts; a son, Gary Watts of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Donna McGinnis of Louisville and Betty Carter of Franklin; two brothers, Joe Watts of Frankfort and William T. Watts of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Jane Watts and Nellie Watts, both of Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Magnolia Street Christian Church by the Revs. David Scalf and Robert E. Jones. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Justin and John Shannon Watts, Shaun McGinnis, Brent Logue, David Warren and Troy Likins.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the church. I have no further information on this person.

Survivors include a daughter, Martha B. Adams Taylor of Lexington; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.
Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday.

He was a retired employee of Corning Glass Works after 40 years, a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, Jewell Glayton Lay; two daughters, Wanda J. Lay of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Wilma J. Linton of Harrodsburg; two brothers, William Lay of Harrodsburg and Charles Lay of Sandusky, Ohio.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Parks Funeral Home by the Revs. J.D. Short III, Phillip Yates and Herbert Dunn Jr. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with military rites. Pallbearers will be George Fishers Jr., Kelly Bugg, Joe Denny, Alonzo Bottoms, Leon Gooch, Donald Gritton, Albert Taylor and Andy Harris.

She died at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Wednesday following a traffic accident Wednesday morning in Mercer County.
Born Feb. 2, 1928, in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charley and Lilly Claunch. She was a retired 31-year employee of Cricketeer, Harrodsburg, and served as a tour guide at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill. She attended Perryville Church of God. She was the widow of Elton Quinn.
Survivors include two sons, Larry D. Catlett of Harrodsburg and William K. Proctor of Woodstock, Ga.; one daughter, Peggy Vandivier of Mercer County; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Billy Russell, Buford Lewis, Doug Cooper, Kenny Whiteside, Chris Quinn and Derrick Vandivier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home by Harley Humfleet. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

She was former owner and operator of Miss Kitty's Restaurant and Guthrie Crafts, a member of Harrdsburg Baptist Church and a member of Wilderness Trace Quilters Guild.
Additional survivors include her husband, Donald Guthrie; a son, Lonnie Barnett of Liberty Township; two daughters, Robin Cecil and Shelly Lynn, both of Harrodsburg; two stepsons, Donald Guthrie of Marion, Ind., and Douglas Guthrie of Harrodsburg; three stepdaughters, Connie Campbell of Anderson, Ind., Carla Hoots of New Castle, Ind., and Debrah Guthrie of Indianapolis; two brothers, Kenneth Jackson of Mercer County and Rusty Jackson of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Dora Lee Higginbotham of Harrodsburg; two half sisters, Marie Blacketer of Lawrenceburg and Polly Hayes of Elizabethtown; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Willard Yeast of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Claudia Dunning of Burgin; a brother, Lucien Morris of Danville; a sister, Pauline Burns of Mercer County; and five grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice.

Travillian; a son, Joe Travillian of Harrodsburg; four daughters, Reeda Rowland of Danville, Joyce Ely and Sue Gordon, both of Salvisa, and Sandy Long of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Bobby Sallee of Salvisa, Troy Sallee of New Albany, Ind., and William Sallee Jr. of Lexington; a sister, Pauline Richmond of Harrodsburg; and Todd Crew, whom she raised; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Samuel R. Travillian and a grandson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Carl Toth and Bobby Potts. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Rita Johnson and Janie Cunningham, both of Mercer County and Glynda Vaughn of Ohio; a son, Joel Vaughn Cunningham of Harrodsburg; a sister, Elsie Vaughn of London; two brothers, Lee Vaughn and Russ Vaughn, both of London; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Born Dec. 10, 1937, in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Blake and Laura Vivian Shirley. He was a stock clerk at Wal-Mart and a Marine veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jaffer Shirley; two daughters, Laura A. Shirley and Lisa M. Shirley, both of Texas.
A memorial service will he held at a later date.

LEXINGTON - Mitch Phillips, 53, of Lexington, died Tuesday Jan 12, 1999 at his home.
Born in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Luke M. and Eddith Peavler Phillips. He was an employee of Link Belt, a Vietnam Air Force veteran, and a member of American Legion Post 8.
Survivors include his wife, Clair Phillips; three sisters, Patsy Schmidt of Columbus, Ohio; Rose Bishop and Linda King, both of Harrodsburg; and a brother, Douglas Phillips of Lexington.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home by the Rev. Ken Gayhart.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

HARRODSBURG - Services for Sarah Mae Yeast Ellis, 55, of West Factory Street, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Centennial Baptist Church by the Rev. J.D. Short. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
She died Saturday Jan 9, 1999 at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, after a long illness.
Born July 25, 1943, in Harrodsburg, she was a daughter of the late Francis L. and Catherine Dunn Yeast. She was a retired nurse with Eastern State Hospital, Lexington, and a member of Centennial Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry L. Yeast of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Cindy M. Jones of Germany, Sandy L. Ellis and Brenda Ellis, both of Harrodsburg; six brothers, William ``Bo'' Yeast, Robert Yeast and Steve Yeast, all of Harrodsburg, George Yeast of Danville, David Payne of Lawrenceburg and Nick Yeast of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Carol Short, Catherine Wheat and Bobbi Jo Yeast, all of Harrodsburg; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Alvis Johnson, John Smith, George Fisher Sr., James Bryant, Michael Hawkins and Jesse Thomas.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may go to American Diabetes Association.
Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was a native of Harrodsburg and a carpenter.
