James Elijah Devine, 61, was dead on arrival at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Born Jan. 1, 1919 in Mercer County he was the son fo the late Lindsey and Gertie Lewis Devine. He was a member of the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church and the Glad Hand Sunday School Class at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and was an employee at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Catherine Tyler Devine; one son, Larry D. Devine of Versailles; his stepmother, Mrs. Mattie Keightley Devine of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin Elliott of Mercer County and Mrs. Martha Peck of Lexington; one brother, William Cecil Devine of Harrodsburg; one stepbrother, Johnny James of Harrodsburg and one granddaughter, Kimberly Hope Devine of Houston, Texas.

Services for Mr. Devine will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. this Thursday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Robert DeFoor and the REv. Arnold Moon will officiate and burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Jimmy Lynn Devine, J.C. Robinson, Mike tyler, Chuck Devine, Stanley Leonard and Lee Anderson.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel after 5 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 3).

Mattie Keightley James Devine, 85, died at 7:20 p.m. Monday at Noel's Mini Nursing Home in Harrodsburg.

Born Dec. 25, 1895 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Gabe and Martha Walker Keightley and the widow of Lindsey Devine.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and the L.L.L. Sunday School class at the church. She was a partner in the Harrod Fashion Shop for 30 years before retiring in 1966 and was a former school teacher. She attended Bourbon Girls College in Paris, Ky., and was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.

Survivors include one son, John H. James Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Y. James; a grand-daughter, Cassandra James Durham of Danville and two great-granddaughters, Carolyn Elizabeth Durham and Catherine James Durham, both of Danville.

Services for Mrs Devine will be conducted at 2 p.m. this Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. The REv. Gilbert Shely will officiate and burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Johnie H. Divine, 90, died Friday, Feb 15 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born May 13, 1900, he was a son of the late James M. and Ida Hendren Divine. He was a retired self-employed barber and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Florence Matherly Divine of Harrodsburg; a brother, Chester Devine of Florida; and four sisters, Phoebe Mastin andMary Will Cast both of Illinois, and Madge Votaw and Ida Lou Maki, both of Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery, at Mackville [Washington Co., Ky].

Pallbearers were: Stephen Bailey, Roy Devine, Earl Howard, herbert Burns, Danny Matherly, and John Markel.

Mrs. Florence Divine, 90, died Monday March 22 at the Harrodsburg health Care Manor.

Born Aug. 20, 1902 in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late Will and Laura Martin Matherly and the widow of Johnnie Divine.

She was an employee of Model Laundry and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: several nieces and nephews including Loraine Bottom of Harrodsburg, and a sister-in-law, Thetta Matherly.

Services for Mrs. Divine will be ehld at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel. The Rev. David Hartman will officiate and burial will be in Peter Cemetery, Mackville.

Pallbearers will be George Matherly, Don Matherly, John Markel, Edgar Prudom, Danny Matherly and Emmitt Devine.

Born March 13, 1917 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Les and Ora Devine. He was a farmer and a member of the Benton Baptist Church where ha had served as a deacon for 44 years.

Survivors include: his wifel, Anna Mae Sinkhorn Devine; one son, Larry Gene Devine of Mercer County; one daughter, Patricia Ann Devine of Mercer County; one brother, Claude Devine of Harrodsburg; three sisters Pearlie Claunch and Lula Hart both of Mercer County, and Mamie Patterson of Tucson, Az.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 11 nieces and nephews. he was preceded in death by two brothers, George T. and James Fred Devine.

Funeral services for Mr. Devine were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with the Revs. Bob Fitts and Woodrow Morrison officiating. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery.

Mr. George T. "Toddy" Devine, 74, died at 11:36 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at the Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center after an illness.

Born July 3, 1912 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Les and Ora Claunch Devine.

He was a member of the Benton Baptist Church and operated the Dixville Grocery Store for over 30 years until his retirement.

Survivors include: his wife, Alice Wilham Devine; a son, J.L. Devine of Mercer County; two brothers, Claude Devine of Harrodsburg and Marion Devine of mercer County; three sisters, Mrs. Jimmy Lee (Pearlie) Claunch of Mercer County; Mrs Albert (Loula) Hart of Mercer County and Mrs. George (Mamie) Patterson of Tucscon, Ariz.; one grandson, Todd Devine of Mercer County, and several niedes and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Fred Devine.

Services for Mr. Devine were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Wesley officiating. Burial was in the Patterson Cemetery in Dixville.

Pallbearers were Kyle Bailey, chester Travillion Srl., Wallace Gilliland, J.C. Wilham, Melvin Hart, Larry Devine, William M. Sanders and Harold Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Williams Devine; a duaghter Mrs. Ruel (Virginia) Lay, Harrodsburg; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Viola Sims, Harrodsburg; two stepsons, Henry and Harold Bailey Mercer County; three brothers, George Thomas Devine, Marion Devine, and Claude Devine, all of Mercer County; three sisters, Mrs. George Patterson, Tuscon, Ariz., Mrs. Jimmy Lee Claunch and Mrs. Eula Hart, Mercer County; a granddaughter, Mrs. Kevin Reilly; 16 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Devine were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with J.K. Lackey and Bobby Slagle officiating. Burial was in Patterson Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the funeral were J.L. Devine, Larry Devine, Marshall Sims Jr., Johnny Bailey, Lee Kyle Bailey, and Robert Gilliland.

Honorary pallbearers were Gary Lay, I.C. James, Billy Cummins, Walter Elliott, and Monnie Wayne Hart.

Mr. Morgan Lee Devine, 63, died Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Born June 14, 1930 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ford and Ethel Grimes Devine. He was the husband of Mary Frances Hatter Devine of Gravel Switch.

He had worked at Cudahy of Harrodsburg for 33 1/2 years in electrical maintenance.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Kentucky National Guard, where he retired after 29 years, a member of the Mercer Lodge #777 F&AM and the Oleika Shrine Temple.

He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was a former Mercer County volunteer fireman.

Survivors include: a son, Willaim Dennis Devine of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Mrs. Beverly Diane Devine McCarty of Clearwater, FL, and Sandra Lee Devine of Harrodsburg; a brother, Tony L. Devine of Mercer County; five sisters, Bettye J. Edmonson of Salvisa, Jane E. Reed and Patricia A. Phillips, both of Mercer County, Carroll Sue Shewmaker of Louisville and Rita K. McGlone of Mercer County, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lee Devine.

Funeral services for Mr. Devine were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. The Rev. Barry Jefferies officiated and burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were J.S. Releford, John Wayne Peavler, Jim Thornton, Junion Hungate, Paul Jones and Fred Perkins.

Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Jones and John Allender.

He was a farmer, had served in the U.S. Army durning the Vietnam War and was a member of the Benton Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his mother include: his wife, Jeanie Yeaste Devine; one daughter, Lisa Slaven of Mercer County; one son, Michael Travis Devine of Danville; one sister Patricia Devine of Mercer County, and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty funeral Home with Bro. Jerel M. Coffey officiating. Interment was in the Patterson Cemetery, Dixville.

Pallbearers were Garnett Collier, David Fisher, Johnnie Bailey, Eddie Harley, Garnett D. Hart and J.L. Devine. Honorary bearers were Wayne Collier, Paul Collier, Todd Collier, Greg Collier, Jimmy Collier, W.T. Devine, Jerry Devine, Brian Smith and Terry Sallee.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

Survivors include: his wife, Adelena Devine, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Pearlie Claunch and Lula Hart, both of Mercer County, and Mamie Patterson, Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by three brothers: James Fred, Marion, and George Thomas Devine.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 26, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Martin, Bro. Chuck Robinson and Bro. Keith Weldon officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Doug Robinson, Ronnie Robinson, Garnett Mobley, Truman Curtsinger, J.L. Devine, Ernest Long, Monte Wayne Hart and Melvin Hart. Honorary bearers were Ruel Lay, James Huff, Jakie Claunch, Mike Huff, Terry Underwood, Curtis patterson, Darty Hart, Herbert Cox and Judd Barrett.

Mr Sidney G. Foster passed away last Thursday at his home near Dugansville after serval years of ill health and suffering which he bore with true Christian patience. Mr Foster was for a long time a well known merchant at Cardwell, but when his health failed he sold his business and moved to the home where he died. He was a faithful member of the Bethel church and his funeral was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Ernest Hitt and he was laid to rest beneath a mound of flowers. Mr. Foster was born December 8, 1864 and was married to his first wife only a short time. After her death he was married to to Miss Mary E. Pinkston on October 6, 1889, and she, with seven children survive him. They are Ellis, Lillie, William, Elmer, Maggie, Gilbert and Ernest Foster. (HH Fri Nov 17, 1922).

E R Foster, 67, a merchant of the Tablow section for the past 44 years, died at 1 o'clock Monday morning, April 27 after a long illness.
Born January 5, 1892 in Washington County, he was a son of Mary Ellen Pinkston Foster Chilton ant the late SG Foster. He was a member of Bethel Baptist church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Isophenia Horn Foster, a daughter, Mrs. Garnett Catlett of New York City and a son, Marshall Foster, Tablow, both by a former marriage to Retta Durr Foster, who predeceased him in 1929: his mother, two sisters, Mrs Jane Huffman, Cornishville, And Mrs. Maggie D Sims, Harrodsburg, four brothers, Elmer Foster, Chaplin, William and Gilbert Foster, Cincinnati, and Ernest Foster, Mercer County, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 29 at Bethel Baptist church by Rev EA Somers. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Houston Gritton, Hobert Long, John Woods, James Hawthorne, Dan Sanders and Sammy Long.
The body remained at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home until time for services.

Mrs. John Reed, a most estimable woman, died suddenly at her home in Duncan Friday morning of heart trouble and complications. She was 75 years of age and a most splendid Christian woman, who was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband and three grown children. She was a devout member of the Bethel Baptist Church and her funeral was held there by Rev Robert Cave, the burial being in the adjoining cemetery.

Adkinson Adkins, and was a well known retired farmer and a member of the Berea Christian Church. His wife, Mrs Mary C. Logue Adkins, died May 27, 1910. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Deltha Camden, of Jenkinsville, Washington county; one son Thomas C. Adkins, of Rose HIll, seven grandchildren and an aunt, Mrs. Sarah E. Pelly, of Parksville. The funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Berea church, conducted by the Rev. Marshall Black pastor of the Deep Creek Baptist Church, Burial in Berea cemetery. The bearers were Garnett McCrystal, Guy McGinniss, Virgil, Gilvie and D Jewell and Buford Logue.

HARRODSBURG, Ky., March 13 (Special)--W.T. Casey, 82, a retired farmer who lived on Votaw Lane, died at 9 a.m. Thursday in Haggin Memorial hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Washington county and a member of Cornishville Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Peavler Casey; three sons, Thomas Lee Casey, Boyle county; Omer Casey, Shelby City, and Everett Casey, Burgin; a sister, Mrs. W.J. Lay, Mercer county, and 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock (CDT) on Saturday afternoon at Cornishville Baptist Church by the Rev. Homer Long and the Rev. Hugh Gilbert. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Longworth, Leroy Girtley, Sam Johnson, J.T. Williams and Omer S. Casey.

****I believe this obit ran in the Harrodsburg Herald, March 13,1959. I typed it from an actual newspaper clipping, exactly as written, leaving in all grammatical and spelling errors. There is also a mistake in naming the pallbearers. Pallbearers were Johnny Longworth, Leroy Girtley, Sam Johnson, J.T. Casey, William Casey and Omer S. Casey.****
