Roach after several years of suffering which he had borne with such Christian fortitude and patience that it double endeared him to all who knew him. He was a man whose cheery, social disposition, intellectual attainments and fund of humor won everyone with whom he came in contact into a close friendship, and he was one of the most popular and esteemed men in the county. Some years ago he was the victim of an automobile accident, a machine coming from the rear struck the vehicle in which he and his wife were riding, and they were thrown out. He apparently escaped serious injury at the time, but later complications developed that were supposed to have resulted from this accident.
Judge Benjamin Franklin Roach was one of the most prominent lawyers at the local bar for many years. He was County Judge of Mercer for several terms and held many other offices of public trust. He was a devoted churchman, and before ill health overtook him was foremost in the activities of the Christian church in this city.
He was the son of William Hughes Roach and Mary Louise Connor Roach and was born April 8, 1860, at Salvisa, Ky. In 1883 he was married to Mary Eliza Parrish, of Midway, who died September 9, 1898. Of this marriage three children survive, Mrs. William [Kate] Riker, Oak Park, Ill.; Mr. Thompson Roach, of Midway, and Mrs. L. C.[Betsy] Barrell of Gonzales, Texas.
In 1905 Judge Roach was married to Irene Smith Williams, of Vicksburg, Miss., who with two children, Miss Mary Louise Roach and Charles Pierce Roach, survive him.
The funeral was held at the residence on Lexington Pike, in the suburbs of this city, Sunday afternoon, conducted by his former pastor and close friend, Dr. M. G. Buckner, of Owensboro; Rev. L. E. Sellers, of the Christian church and Rev. S. S. Daughtry, of the Presbyterian church.
The interment was in the family lot in Spring Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends of the family from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Betty W. Kennedy and Mr and Mrs. W. T. Bond, of Lawrenceburg; Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Curry, Mr. and Mrs. Sanders Clay, Mrs. and Mrs. Edwin Curry, Danville; Mrs. John Harrison, Lima, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Parrish, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Parrish, Mr. and Mrs. I. W. Parrish, Mrs. Elvie Owsley, Mrs. Breckinridge Viley, Miss Clara Kinney and Mr. Charles Parrish of Midway; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lansing, Mr. and Mrs. Viley McFerran, Mr. E. W. Bedinger, Dr. Tom Bullock, Mrs. Asa Jewell, of Lexington; Mr. John Rout, of Versailles; Mrs. Charles Pierce Williams, of Vicksburg, Miss.
