NORSE, WILLIAM: Mentions his aged brother, Joseph Norse of the District of Columbia, Registrar of the Treasury of the U.S. Resided in Berkley Co., Va., at the beginning of the war. He entered the Sea Service at age 17 as a midshipman on 16 Oct 1780. On a voyage from the West Indies to Philadelphia, 16 Apr 1781, his ship was taken & he became a prisioner on a prison ship, where I suffered the most cruel treatment & with 40 others was taken to Portsmouth, Eng. prison, where we had no fire or any comforts, until the Spring of 1782 when I was sent back with about 300 others. I re-entered the service as midshipman & again captured & not released until the end of the war, with severe treatment beyong discription. ELIZABETH HARBERSON: Elizabeth Moore, resident of Mercer Co., widow of Capt. Thomas Moore. She married sd Thomas Moore at Harberson's Fort, when it was surrounded by Hostil Indians on the 25 Day of Mar 1782 or 3, she cannot remember the year. They were forted up at the time of their marriage & were married by John Cowan, a Magistrate. Shortly after they married, James Harberson was killed inside the fort by a party of Indians, Her husband, immediately mounted as many men as could be spared from the fort and went in persuit of them and was absent for sometime, but failed to overtake them. Thomas Moore died 23 Feb 1835, on 23 Aug 1838..she said she was 72 in August last.Affiant 1: Ray, James, General

MOORE, JOHN C. SR.: This pension is listed as both Pa & Va. He was born in Frederick Co., Maryland & when very young went with my father to the western part of Pa, near the Monogahala River on Muddy Creek..the place we lived was in dispute between Pa & Va, when the line was run we were in Pa & I lived about 10 miles above Red Stone Old Fort, now Brownsville..was called into service when the ARW first commenced...service against the Indians..at one time he was a guard with his father. Mentions "my brother Thomas Moore" & I served together. I was taken prisoner by the Wyandott Indians & taken to Detroit & kept by the Indians until I escaped in Aug of 1782, during that time I was permited to go out and hunt with the warriors. I was taken with them on a expedition intended for the stations in Kentucky (which became the Battle of Blue Licks) I continued with them in the hopes of making my escape. On the 2nd night after reaching Wheeling, another prisoner named Benjamin Kelly & I made our escape & reached the neighborhood of Washington, called Catfish Camp. I have never received any pay or land for my services. I removed to Ky from Monongahala in late 1783 where I now live.Affiant 1: Moore, Thomas, Sr

I came to Kentucky & settled at McGary's Station and in the spring of 1781, I became a guard and Indian Spy in the Va Militia .. first stated at Shawnee Run & then at Arnold's station & then at Denton's station .. marched with General George Rogers Clark against the Indians at Piqua on the Big Miami. He adds a further deposition 21 Feb 1833 in Anderson Co., Ky, aged 71 saying he also served with Isaac Shelby & Evan Shelby in 1776 & 1777 bringing provisions to Col Christian. HEDGER, THOMAS: He first employed a man by the name of John Willis who served for me & was honorably discharged. I was drafted in the spring of 1781 from Culpepper Co., Va..my home. States he was born 25 Mar 1747 in Somerset Co., NJ and moved from there before the war to Culpepper Co., Va. I have lost my papers & know of no one except William Hedger who can prove my service. I moved to Kentucky in the fall of 1790 to Fayette Co, after living there 5 years I moved to Mercer Co., Ky where I now live. 22 Oct 1840..Thomas Hedger appeared in Parke County, Ind court: He is the same person who was on the pension rolls of Kentucky from whence he removed to & now resides in Indiana where he intends to remain & wishes his pension transferred. He has lived in Parke Co., Ind for 5 years & the reason heremoved as he has children there with whom he wishes to reside. He had intended to return to Ky but is now to imfirm. A paper in this file states he came from Kentucky to this state (Rockville, Ind) to make a visit to his daughter who lived in this county with the intention of returning but his health prevented it.Affiant 1: William Hedger

HARLAN, GEORGE: George Harlan, appeared in Mercer Co court ,a resident of Lincoln Co., Ky resideing near the town of Danville in Mercer Co., Ky..he was 71 on 21st of June last..he enlisted at age 16 in Va at the Glades of Sandy Creek..on 7 Jan 1777. He served 3 years and removed to the State of Kentucky in the fall of 1780 & resided at Harlan's Station up the Salt River. A certain Thomas Hartley proposed that I give him my discharge he would take it to the office of Col. Richard C. Anderson at or near Louisville and on his return would tell me how I could get my land. Some years afterward, I went to Col. Anderson's office to inquire about this & when he examined his books, he informed me that the land lay upon Clear Creek in the State of Ohio and had been entered in the name of Evans, assigner of George Harlan. I went to Chilliocthe and saw Evans but got no satisfaction about my land, nor have I ever been able to obtain it.. mentions several times Jeremiah Briscoe (Major & now dec'd) who had lived also at Harlan's station & always intimate with his family until the death of Briscoe.Spouse: Catherine Pope
