My father died when I was 9 years old & my mother being unable to keep her children, I went at age 13 to the state of Vermont & lived with my Grandfather's brother near Burlington & when I was 16 years og age in Apr 1777, volunteered for the militia..in the spring of 1778 I returned to Vermont & lived with an uncle until sometime in Jun 1778..again enlisted..at the end of the ARW I returned to Conn. & lived there 2 years..then went on board a vessel and sailed around to Savannah and on to Augusta & married in a place called Bedford. I then removed to South Carolina & in the year 1794 removed to Mercer Co., Ky where I have lived to the present day, with only temporary absence. He removed to Jessamine Co from Va in 1792, left for the state of Indiana in 1814 & returned to Jessamine Co in 1829 & removed to Mercer Co in 1833 where he now resides. Date: 6 Sep 1830 He has not applied before, owing to the kindness of Joseph Morgan, Esq. he has been permitted to live on a small piece of land belonging to Morgan. He is by trade a cooper. His family consists of himself & wife. Widow: ANNE SMOCK Thomas Allin, Clerk of Mercer Co presents records that Samuel Britton married Anne Smock, 25 Jul 1799 by Rev. John McGraw. He further states the Will of Samuel Brittan was presented in court Oct 1834. Robert McAfee says he is well aquainted with Samuel Britton who died in Mercer Co & he has resided in this county since McAfee was a boy. Their surviving children were: Cynthia Craig of Anderson Co., Ky; Barnett Britton of Louisville., Ky.; Samuel Britton of Mercer Co., Ky. --- Felix Matheny in 1855, who keeps a store in Salvisa finds in his books, that sold on 12 Apr 1851 was shrouding for the burial of Mrs. Ann Britton, widow of Samuel. She died in Anderson Co at the home of her grandson, Thomas J. Powell. Affiant 1: Lucinda Craig Resident of Mercer Co., Ky & near 58 years. One of the children of Samuel & Anne Britton. Anne died in Anderson Co on April 12 or 13, 1851 at the home of my son. Samuel Britton died in Sept 1834 about the 14th. They had other children but they died in infancy..only 3 survive. "My proper name is Lucinda but some refer to me as Cinda or Cynthia". Affiant 2: Barnett Brittan Resident of Louisville., Ky, one of the children of Samuel & Anne Britton, appts C.H.Barkely his atty. Affiant 3: Samuel Brittan Jr. Resident of Mercer Co, is the administrator of the estate of Anne Britton dec'd. He was the 9th child of Samuel & Anne Britton. Affiant 4: Jeremiah Brittan 1830, resident of Spencer Co & he is the brother of Samuel Brittan, Sr..they enlisted together in the spring of 1776. I know of no one except my brother in Hardin Co who can testify as to my services". Letter in the file from Robert B. McAfee 28 Nov 1832...that Samuel Brewer walked 90 miles and back to get his brother Peter Brewer's affidavit. Widow: REBECCA SMITH Sp Age: 78 W Ap. Date: 3 Sep 1838 3 Sep 1838, a resident of Garrard Co., Ky..she is the widow of Samuel Brewer & they were married in Mercer Co., Ky 13 May 1787 by Rev. David Rice. Samuel Brewer died 31 Jan 1835. On 20 Jun 1843 Rebecca Brewer was a resident of Anderson Co., Ky aged 79. Marriage bond of Samuel Brewer & Rebeckah Smith was dated 13 May 1787 & married by David Rice. Letter in the file from James Taylor saying that Mrs. Elizabeth Moore, widow of Thomas Moore, was trying to get a pension & that he drew pension before his death. Date: N/A No date. Mrs. Elizabeth Bradshaw, resident of Mercer Co, aged nearly 81 states her husband died 3 May 1842 & they were married sometime in the year 1781. Part of a Bible: Sally Bradshaw, daughter of Claiborne Bradshaw & Elizabeth his wife was born Ocotober 24, 1782 Affiant 1: Barsheba Bradshaw Mrs. Barsheba Bradshaw states she is the daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Bradshaw who is the widow of Claiborne Bradshaw. She is now living in the house of Elizabeth Bradshaw in which Claiborne Bradshaw lived prior to his death. Said widow cannot leave her room, in her house about 4 miles from Harrodsburg. Affiant 2: Nancy Houchins Mrs. Nancy Houchins of Mercer Co., Ky states she is the sister of Mrs. Elizabeth Bradshaw & she was at the marriage of Elizabeth to Claiborne Bradshaw & thinks it was in 1780 & they were married by Parson Douglas. On the same day William Bowman & Mary Cosby were married. The maiden name of Elizabeth Bradshaw was Clements. Affiant 3: Edward Houchins He states that he knows both Claiborne Bradshaw & Elizabeth h/w, and had lived from the days of his childhood in the immediate neighborhood until they moved to Ky. When he moved to Ky he came directly to their house & they have been his neighbors ever since, down to the death of Claiborn Bradshaw. He married the sister of Elizabeth Bradshaw & she is now living. He was also present at the marriage of Claiborne & Elizabeth & remembers to have slept in the same bed with Parson Douglas the night he married them. He is also a AWR pensioner. Isaac Alexander owned both tracts when he died, where his widow now lives.
