Benjamin, age 40, gunsmith, born NY, Jane 51, born Ireland, Elizabeth 10, Charles 5, Mary 1.The 3 children were born KY.
According to Benjamin's obit, Elizabeth married Dr. Henry PLUMMER, Mary married Charles VANARSDALL, all of Mercer Co. Charles MILLS of Louisville. There was also Jennie MILLS SKEGGS of Corinth KY, apparently born after 1850. Benjamin MILLS reportedly was a famous gunmaker during the Civil War. He had been in charge of the arsenal at Harper's Ferry when John Brown stormed it. He appeared at Brown's trial. I am interested to learn information about a gun museum he had in Harrodsburg.Top | Surname Index | Researchers Page | 'Every Word' Search | Archived Data | Home

Christison Surnames: CHRISTISON #01382 Richard S. Fulton <rfulton@us.ibm.com> Thu, 20 May 1999 << Previous in Thread Response >> In a manuscript in the LDS library by Kenneth Ballew about the Christison's of MD to Lincoln, Mercer, and Casey County, KY, Adam Christison, born in 1794 is listed as the son of John Christison Jr. and his wife Hetty (maiden name unknown). His brothers and sisters are also listed. I don't know if this is correct, since I have found a few other errors in Kenneth connections. My own research in addition to others seems to clearly indicate that a John Christison married Margaret Hamilton in Baltimore County, MD in 1745. John was born in about 1723 and Margaret in about 1726. Margaret's father was Thomas Hamilton of the same county. John and Margaret Christison (the same is sometimes hard to trace since it is often spelled Christian and sometimes Christerson or Christeson. My grandmother was always most adamant that the spelling was Christison) leased land in 1746 in My Lady's Manor near Carroll's Run in NW Baltimore County, MD. They were still living there when the area was in Mine Run Hundred in the 1783 Tax list. John had at least 4 sons and two daughters who lived to adulthood (Elizabeth b:1747, William b: abt 1750, Ann, Robert reportedly born 1759, John, Jr. born 1762-88yrs old in 1850 census, and Thomas my 4th Gr Grandfather) and possibly another son Isaac born in 1771, although I think Isaac could be the son of John Sr's eldest son William.
As I mentioned, Ballew's info lists Adam as the middle son of John Jr. He could have been the son of Robert, William, or Isaac. My own Thomas' children seem to be accounted for, so I do not think Adam is his. I would like to exchange information with you. Do you have a list of Adam's children? Who was Adam's first born son? This is likely the name of Adam's father. Stay in touch.
