2 May, 1836 in Mercer county, KY, ABNER COX born in VA, married a LEAH WHOBREY. That is how LEAH'S maiden name is spelled in the book that this marriage record was found . In research that I have done, this is the only place I have located the surname WHOBREY, around 1830 KY. I was wondering if the surname WHOBERRY could have been written down as WHOBREY, or if you have a LEAH that would have been born 1815-1818, Kentucky. I hope you can help me.

SAYRE-MATHERLY INFORMATION

I am also researching a James
Sayre from Mercer Co.KY but he was married to Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Norton. During the
course of my research I found a marriage bond for James Sayre and Sarah Jane
Matherly, you may already have this information but it list the marriage
date as 25 May 1892 in Harrodsburg, KY, James made the oath that he was 21
yrs of age this May. Bond is signed by Jas Matherly. Witness were Wm.
Sayre and Mary Alice Sayre. Also found the bond for William Sayre and Mary
Alice Matherly date 20 April 1892, also married in Harrodsburg KY, and
signed by J.M. Matherly. Looks like James and William were brothers and
Sarah and Mary were sisters, and that James M. Matherly was their father. Hope this is helps. I will check my other Sayre data for further information.

My husband's grandfather, Chesley Graves was in West Virginia when his son, Merel D. Graves, was born in 1920. Merel Graves had three children. Ronald David Graves b-1951, Nancy Cora Graves b-1954 and Kelly Sue Graves b-1963. I don't think we have a family connection, but the name Cora caught my eye. I don't know much about Chesley Graves, but if you came across his name in your search, perhaps we do have a connection.

Hi, My name is Denny Rutt. I came across your query while doing some family geneology. My mothers maiden name is Sportsman. My g-g-g-g grandfather was William Sportsman. William had six sons and two daughters. One son, James was my g-g-g grandfather, and was married in 1815 in Mercer County, Kentucky. He had a brother who's name was Hugh, which I suspect is the same Hugh you have in your family. I don't have any information on the McGary's, but I have a lot of information on the Sportsman's. James and Hugh were early settlers in Chariton Co, Mo. in the 1820's. If you have any other information on the Sportsmans in Kentucky, I am always looking for information.
Thank you, Denny

Have any of you Mercer County LAMBERTs ever heard of John Milton LAMBERT born in June of 1862 and died in June of 1932 (tombstone inscription). He died in Morgan County, KY but was not originally from the area. He was a blacksmith by trade. Our family has been searching for our g-grandfather's history for some time. We know little about him. We are not sure the birthdate is correct but we assume it is. If there is even the slightest possibilty that he is related to the Mercer Co. Lamberts please let me know. (Family history says he was orphaned at a young age and reared by his Smith cousins.) Donna
