Thompson/Thomson
Surnames: SHIELDS, SHILLIDEAU#01571
Gloria Padach <seamore@earthlink.net> Sat, 07 Aug 1999
I am searching for Roger Thompson/Thomson who married Betsy A. Shields, 1 May 1797 in Mercer Co. KY. He may have been the son of John Thompson of Prince Edward Co., VA.

John Thompson will of 26 Mar 1793 Prince Edward, names his children: Robert, Roger, John, Sarah and Jane. These children were born in the c1750-c1762. Roger and Robert may have been from a second marriage and born later than the 1762 estimated date.

Roger may have traveled to Mercer Co. KY, with his brother John Thompson, whose wife was Jane Shillideay. They were married in Montgomery Co. VA 19 Nov 1779. We know the two son of George & Esther (Baker) Shillideay's were in both Mercer(George, Jr) and Fayett Co. (Edward) on 13 Oct 1795.

If correct Roger Thompson/Thomson, other siblings, Robert, who likely married a Elizabeth Hamilton 5 Jan 1792 or Elizabeth Reed 3 Jan 1792 both in Prince Edward. (This Elizabeth may be the same person). A sister Sarah Thompson (no information) and sister Jane Thompson, who was born c1762 and married 18 March 1782, by bond, Cabel Baker in Prince Edward. Va.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Gloria

John Mahan, b. July 25, 1802, who married Letisha Statton, b. July 10, 1810; d. Feb. 1839.

Their son - James H. Mahan, b. Aug. 15, 1832 in Salvisa Mercer Co, KY; d. July 14, 1924 in Palmyra, Macoupin Co., IL. He married Susan Shipley, b. Oct 9, 1840; d. Feb. 3, 1904 most likely in Macoupin Co., IL.

Any additional information would be appreciated, ancestors, siblings, marriage dates, etc.

Thanks.

Bronston Thomas Mayes <mayes@fullerton.edu> Wed, 18 Aug 1999
 << Previous in Thread
Fred, My branch of the Mayes family is from the Mackville & Willisburg/Springfield areas of Washington/Mercer County. John G.(Granderson?) Mayes is my earliest ancestor in Ky & I have reason to believe he came from Mecklenberg Co. VA. He had a good number of children, but my line is John G. Mayes, James C. Mayes, Richard G. Mayes, Vernon Mayes, Bronston Truman Mayes, and finally me, Bronston Thomas Mayes. I believe there is a branch of the Mayes family in Alabama started by Stith Mayes, brother of John G. Mayes from VA. The first name Stith shows up several times in the KY line. I have some copies of property disposition and wills with John G. Mayes' name on them, as well as census and marriage records from Washington Co. Get in touch, we're probably cousins. By the way, do you have any old family pictures? Do you know where John G. Mayes and his wife Sarah are buried or where they were married?

Richard Franklin <rjf47@gulfsurf.infi.net> Sat, 21 Aug 1999
 << Previous in Thread
I have just started to research my ancestors and obviously you have more info than I.

James would be my great x3 grandfather. Then Thomas Shelton (g x2), Benjamin Butler (g), Benjamin Lloyd and my father Richard James Franklin.

Does James and his father James have middle names that we know of? Are the children of Nancy and James known? My grandfather wrote in a letter circa 1961, of meeting a George David Franklin in 1917 while he was in the army stationed in CA. They found out they were related through great?uncles. My father(d:1978) had 3 brothers, one is deceased and as of this date I have had no luck in getting any information from that end of the family.

Thanks
Richard

Hi Ellen:

There may not be any connection between the two names of Maccoun and Maccasslon.

I have a daughter of George and Esther Shillideay, Sr. who married with the consent of her father, David Maccasslon, This would have taken place in 1789 in Montgomery Co. VA. The mother Esther Shillideay and several of her son, Andrew Edward and George, Jr. are found in the 1795 Kentucky Censes, (compiled from the county lax lists) living in Mercer Co. KY.

I am 99% certain that her POWELL line is indeed the Mercer Co. POWELL line - we descend from Charles POWELL and Leah GOLDMAN via their son John and his _second_ wife, Mary Jane NOBLE.
