CARNEY in Mercer County

I am researching the CARNEY ancestry and found JOHN CARNEY who served in the 10th KY Infantry. There is a possibility that this man may be my g-grandfather. Though his parents were from TN he was born in KY as indicated on the 1900 census for Washington County, AR, where he moved to from KY. His wife in AR drew a pension of some sort, possibly military. There are no CARNEYs on the 1850 census in Mercer County. I have not been able to check 1860 yet. I think he had a wife and child in KY, too, as my g-grandmother's obit mentions a stepdaughter. I would really appreciate any info that anyone can pass along about this man. I can look up info in the Chattanooga, Hamilton County, TN, area in return. Thanks big time. Jean Carney

If William and Sarah Smith Devin/Devine are indeed John's parents, then John's siblings are : James Devin (ARW veteran from Pittsylvania Co., Va. - pensions application filed in Lincoln Co., Ky) Mary Devin m. ____ Biggar William Jr. b. 1752 m. Martha Mitchell 1780 Robert m. Nancy Parrish (is he the one listed in Mercer Co., Ky 1795 Tax list?) Joseph m. Elizabeth Norlin/Nowlin Sarah - unmarried school teacher Margaret m. Joseph Reynolds Alexander - m. Susan Nowlin Pittsylvania Co., Va William's will, written 25 Nov 1800, either probated or recorded (he was dead by this date) 19 Apr 1802, Pittsylvania Co., Va Will Books D and W Page 243 The will doesn't mention John, but then again, John had been dead some 10-12 years already. However, it does mention the heirs of his daughter Margaret dec'd. Another note: William Devin and Sarah Smith were married in Pittsylvania Co., Va in 1750 .... John was born sometime before 1744. I also saw somewhere (would have to dig it up), that William's first 3 children (James, John, Mary) were born in Pennsylvania. The rest were born in Va.

I am looking for decendents of Francis Mahan, son of John Mahan, Sr. and Sara Clark Mahan, brother of John Mahan, Jr. and grandfather of Alice Mahan. Alice died 6-22-1953 and is buried in Bellevue Cemetery. I am a decendent of John Mahan Jr. and wife Nancy Woodson Mahan who left Mercer County KY and settled in Hendricks County Indiana in 1833.

Garrett Edgar Anderson was born on January 3, 1873, in Harrodsburg, KY. His parents were Robert R. Anderson and Margaret Poulter (or Polter). Garrett used to say that there was always a Robert R. Anderson in his family line. The family eventually moved to California. Looking for clues for tracing their roots in Kentucky. I know there were lots of Andersons and Poulters in Mercer County. All Poulters in Mercer Co descend from John Poulter & Martha "Patsy" Ransdall. John with two sisters, Elizabeth w/o William Kelly & Eleanor w/o Caleb Sims - came from Culpeper Co., Va. in the early days. ARW Pension Application of John Poulter. #S14211 Virginia Service Applied 12/3/1832 in Mercer Co., Ky - age 71. He was born in Orange Co., Va 7/31/1762. & when very young moved to Culpeper Co., Va.
