Alsey Minor vs. Edith Minor
2 Apr 1801
Danville District Court (abstract) Mercer County
submitted by Anne Baker

Alsey Minor by her atty., John S. Bridges, states that In April 1785 her father, Joseph Minor died in Va. & left a large estate both real & personal and left 11 children his heirs & legatees to wit: your orator, Bartley Minor, Spencer Minor, Joseph Minor, John Minor, Ephraim Minor, Serus (Cyrus) Minor, Tilla Minor, Letty Minor and Elizabeth Minor. Her father died intestate and Edith Minor who was then her mother and widow of said decedent took out letters of administration of the estate of her deceased father. Edith took possession of the estate of the deceased & your orator never received any part of the distributive share, although she had often requested to pay her the sum. Now, accuses defendant of contriving and confederating to cheat and to defraud the orator altogether. Edith Minor refuses to render to her an account of the estate aforesaid and utterly refuses to pay to her her distributive part. She fraudulently and unjustly withholds this. She asks why the defendant has not paid her… On Aug 28, 1801, Edith Minor was ordered to pay 92 lbs. 3 sh. 4 p to Alsey Minor, plus legal interest from April 1, 1786.

Note: Bartley Minor entered an identical bill and was also awarded the same judgment against Edith Minor. Also note: 11 children are mentioned as the number of children left at death of Joseph Minor, only 10 are listed.

Note by transcriber. Anyone interested in this line should look in Lunenburg Co., Va. where Joseph was a resident before 1749 & where he died. Edith was the daughter of John Cox & so named in his will. Ancestors of Joseph seem to be the Minors of Westmoreland Co., Va. I only mean this as a guide to further research, not an absolute. ARB.
